Shoulder stability for rugby 🏉

Working with a client who has previously had a shoulder dislocation and surgery to stabilise it, but still feels symptoms with extended use and higher load rugby demands.

Here we’re using a hand-off style movement with an earthquake band and weight to challenge shoulder control in a rugby specific position.

The unstable load forces the shoulder to stay strong, controlled, and reactive. Helping build confidence for contact, fending, tackling, and absorbing force on the pitch.

A quick check-in with today to review a ni**le that’s been bothering him during MMA training.

He had a few concerns around overtraining, tendon health, and how best to manage his training load over the next few weeks.

We used a quick ultrasound assessment to get a clearer picture of the tendon and help guide the best plan moving forward — not just guessing, but making decisions based on what we can see clinically.

The goal now is to keep him training where possible, manage volume properly, and avoid a small issue becoming a bigger one.

Shoulder stability work for rugby 🏉

For contact athletes, strong shoulders are not just about pressing heavy weights. They need control, endurance and stability under load — especially during tackles, carries, rucks and falls.

This session included:

✅ Banded overhead press with lunge
✅ Bear crawl into single arm brace hold
✅ Scap pull-ups
✅ Kettlebell drags

The goal is to build a shoulder that can tolerate unpredictable contact, maintain position under fatigue and reduce the risk of repeat irritation or injury.

Back pain is rarely just about something being out of place.

Most lower back pain is not serious, and it does not automatically mean damage. Evidence shows it is often linked to reduced load tolerance, poor recovery, stress, stiffness, and deconditioning rather than one structure being badly injured.

Your back is strong, adaptable, and usually responds well to the right rehab approach. The aim is not endless rest. It is the right movement, the right loading, and building confidence again.
