This is what fit at 80 looks like💪
Pete turned 80 a couple of weeks ago.
I know he doesn’t look it, he looks incredible for his age.
When you train consistently, eat well and look after yourself as you get older it definitely slows down ageing. Pete is living proof of that.
Pete first signed up for my 8 week transformation around 11 years ago.
He did amazingly well, lost weight, got fitter, stronger and healthier. At the end of the 8 weeks he thanked me and said he was happy with his results and didn’t need to come anymore because he would just maintain what he’d achieved.
I remember thinking to myself, it doesn’t quite work like that. You don’t maintain results doing nothing. But he left the gym a happy man with the results he had achieved.
About 3 or 4 weeks later Pete phoned me.
“I can’t believe how quickly I’ve lost my strength and fitness and I feel like crap. Can I sign back up? This time I’ll be training with you for life.”
And that’s exactly what he’s done.
During his first year training with me he lost an amazing 40lbs and completely transformed his body. (Swipe to see his one year transformation.)
Since then he’s maintained those results for years. The only time he put a bit of weight back on was after going travelling and developing a bit of a biscuit addiction! He jumped back on TRANSFORMin8, lost the weight again (swipe for those photos) and he has maintained it ever since.
Pete was 69 when he first signed up.
He’d never been to a gym and had never exercised regularly before.
He is proof it’s never too late to start.
It’s never too late to improve your quality of life.
The thing that impresses me most isn’t even his transformation.
It’s his attitude.
He never uses his age as an excuse.
He gives 100% in every session.
In 2018 he held a plank for an incredible 6 minutes and 6 seconds, becoming the male plank record holder at my gym. Most people would have given up long before then, but that’s Pete. Once he sets his mind to something, he gives 100% and doesn’t quit.
He never skips exercises because of his age. He still does burpees. He still jumps over hurdles. He runs, he lifts weights, he takes part in gym competitions and he does anything you ask of him with 100 percent effort every time.
He never complains when it’s EMOM week and he never misses the Halloween or Christmas workouts, which plenty of people half his age (and even a quarter of his age!) happily try to avoid.
Every Tuesday and Thursday evening without fail he’s at my gym giving everything he’s got. Anyone who comes to that session always comments on how hard Pete works.
What I also love about Pete is he’s genuinely one of the nicest blokes you’ll meet. Always got a smile on his face, always has time for everyone and for a chat after sessions and always has a great positive, can-do attitude. He’s a great person to train and everyone who trains with him always comes away feeling inspired.
Pete’s consistency over the last 11 years has been incredible and it shows with how good he looks at 80.
He’s fitter, stronger and healthier at 80 than most people decades younger.
And the best bit?
He’s done it training just two 45 minute sessions a week.
That’s all.
Two 45 minute workouts a week have massively improved his quality of life as he’s got older.
People think they need to live in the gym to get results.
You don’t.
You just need to turn up consistently like Pete.
If you use your age as an excuse not to train, you’ll age quicker than you need to.
Like they say… if you don’t use it, you lose it.
Whatever your age, it’s never too late to start.
If you want to be fit, strong and healthy when you’re 80, do what Pete does.
Train a minimum of twice a week.
Turn up without fail.
Work hard.
Repeat.
It’s been a pleasure training Pete for the last 11 years and hopefully there are many more to come. He’s a massive inspiration to everyone at the gym and I hope when I’m 80 I’ll be as fit as Pete. 👏💪
