Alison Kinghorn, funeral director, will be taking part in the GNR on Sunday 13 September for Tyneside and Northumberland MIND. This is a huge challenge for someone in her 50s, who is a non-runner but for such a worthwhile charity. If you feel like you could support her that would be amazing. She will definitely finish whether it's running, walking or crawling over the finish line. Thank you xx

Recent news from Hull has understandably raised concerns about the care and standards families should expect from a funeral director. We ourselves are shocked and saddened that this has happened to these families.

At All Seasons Funeral Directors, we're proud to be a National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) member and part of a community of independent funeral directors committed to professional and compassionate care.

We're regularly inspected and voluntarily regulated under the UK Funeral Director Code. Families also have access to an independent complaints process through SAIF, delivered by an externally audited and Chartered Trading Standards Institute-certified body.

We hope these safeguards offer added reassurance that families and their loved ones will be treated with care, dignity and respect.

Honouring loved ones ⛪

We know how important it is to have a safe, peaceful place to remember loved ones.

Over the coming weeks, trained staff will be carrying out routine safety inspections of gravestones in Newcastle's cemeteries. This work is carried out in line with national guidance and helps identify memorials that may have become unstable over time, protecting everyone who visits our cemeteries.

If a memorial is found to need attention, it will be carefully supported with temporary wooden stakes and bands, and a notice will be placed asking the registered owner to contact our Bereavement Services team. We understand this can be upsetting to see, but these measures are taken with the utmost care and respect while any necessary repairs are arranged.

We do not take the impact of this work for granted. We have a legal responsibility to ensure the safety of our cemeteries and the national rules were introduced following the tragic deaths of children elsewhere in the UK where gravestones had fallen on to them.

Some memorials are more than 100 years old, and over time it can become difficult to trace the registered owner or next of kin. If you have a loved one buried in one of Newcastle's cemeteries, please help us by making sure your contact details are up to date. This means we can get in touch quickly if we ever need to discuss the memorial.

If your contact details have changed, please contact Bereavement Services on 0191 211 6941 or email [email protected].

Thank you for helping us keep our cemeteries safe while treating every memorial with the dignity and respect it deserves.

🌿 Mountsett Crematorium Open Day – You’re Invited

I’m pleased to share that I’ve been invited to take part in the open day at Mountsett Crematorium, to mark it's 60th anniversary, on Saturday the 18th of July 2026, 9am–4pm.

The event is completely open to the public, and everyone is welcome to come along.

📍 Location: Mountsett Crematorium, Ewehurst Road, Dipton, Stanley, DH9 9JP
🕘 Time: 9am – 4pm

Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to join guided tours of the crematorium, learn more about the cremation process, and dispel some of the common myths or rumours people may have heard. It’s a rare chance to see behind the scenes in a calm, respectful environment designed to inform and reassure.

I’ll be there alongside other professionals from within the funeral industry to openly discuss what I do as a funeral celebrant and answer any questions you may have about my role.

There will also be other celebrants, crematorium staff and funeral directors available if you’d like to speak with them or learn more about their work.

Whether you’re curious, seeking understanding, or simply wish to explore the site, you’re warmly invited to attend.

✨ Please share this post to help spread the word. The more people who know about the open day, the more the community can benefit from the insight and reassurance it offers.
