Today my work took me to Clydebank Crematorium. It's not a place I would normally conduct in, but it was to do the service of my friends Dad which was an honour. Albeit under sad circumstances, it was so lovely to see a lovely work colleague from my GHA housing days and a funeral director who I worked alongside for many years in Ayrshire too.

At Holmsford Bridge Crematorium, we believe in being open, honest and transparent in everything we do.
We understand that cremation can feel unfamiliar, and many people have questions—but sometimes they're unsure where to ask them.

So today, we're opening the conversation.

💬 If you could ask us just one question about cremation, what would it be?

No question is too big or too small. Whether it's about the cremation process, what happens on the day, ashes, memorial options, or anything else, we're here to provide clear, honest answers.

Simply leave your question in the comments below, and we'll do our best to answer as many as we can. Your question might also help someone else who has been wondering the same thing.

Thank you for helping us make conversations around cremation more open, informed and supportive. 💚

Every day at Holmsford Bridge Crematorium, our team has the privilege of supporting families through one of the most difficult moments of their lives. It is work that carries immense responsibility, requiring compassion, professionalism, and unwavering attention to detail.

People often ask how those who work in a crematorium remain motivated while surrounded by grief. The answer is simple: we don't focus on death—we focus on people.
We see the husband determined to give his wife the farewell she deserved. We see grandchildren sharing treasured memories through tears and laughter. We see families finding comfort in the smallest gestures—a favourite song played at just the right moment, a treasured photograph carefully displayed, or a loved one's final journey carried out with dignity and respect.

Those moments remind us why every detail matters.

Our motivation comes from knowing that the care we show today may become part of a family's lasting memory tomorrow. A kind word, a reassuring smile, or taking a little extra time can make an unimaginable day just a little more bearable.

Working in a crematorium also teaches us to value life. It reminds us to cherish our own loved ones, to be kinder, more patient, and never to take time together for granted.

We support one another as colleagues, celebrate the lives we help honour, and remain focused on the privilege of serving our community with compassion. Every family is unique, every story deserves to be respected, and every farewell deserves to be personal.
Behind every service is a team quietly working together with one shared purpose—to ensure that every person entrusted to our care is treated with the dignity they deserve and every family leaves knowing their loved one was honoured with compassion, respect, and kindness.

It isn't always easy work, but it is deeply meaningful. And that purpose is what keeps us motivated every single day and we are thankful to our families for entrusting us with their precious loved ones services

Today I had the pleasure of conducting a celebration of life service for such a special man, who loved anything to do with superheroes, on the buses and only fools and horses, to name but a few. Everyone wore Tshirts in honour of his favourite programs/films and of course I got in on the action too. He also loved music, having a dance or shaking his ass as he used to say to his wonderful support workers, and liked doing the actions to hands up by Ottawan, so we ended the service to that very song, everyone joined in with me, raising our hands and had a wee shake in his honour. The funeral directors and crematorium attendant joined in too.....such a wonderful celebration to be a part of.....for a real life superman.

Grief does not follow deadlines 🤍

It doesn’t disappear after the funeral.

It doesn’t fade just because people think “enough time has passed.”

Love doesn’t work that way.

When someone mattered deeply…
their absence can echo for years.

Sometimes grief feels loud.
Sometimes it becomes quiet.

But quiet does not mean gone.

You may still cry years later.
You may still reach for your phone to call them.
You may still feel their absence during holidays, milestones, and ordinary Tuesdays.

And none of that means you’re stuck.

It means your love was real.

People need to stop putting timelines on pain they’ve never had to carry.

Healing isn’t forgetting.
Moving forward isn’t leaving them behind.

It’s learning how to keep living while loving someone who is no longer physically here.

And that kind of love has no expiration date 🕊

Neither does grief.
