ADHD child development

The more I learn, the more I'm reminded that children's behaviour rarely tells the whole story.

Children are developing every day. Some skills develop earlier than others, and some take longer to mature. Understanding where a child is in their development can change the way we respond, the support we offer, and the confidence we help them build.

My aim isn't to find fault or labels.

It's to help parents understand what may be happening beneath the surface, so they feel more confident supporting their child.

πŸ’š Every child is developing.
πŸ’š Every child deserves to be understood.

What is one thing your child has surprised you with this week?

Having delay in development can result with difficulties in understanding what is being asked of them, not because they don’t want to but because the foundation of understanding is not available yet.

Thank you to everyone who came along to my ADHD parent talk yesterday.

It was a wonderful morning with some fantastic conversations, thoughtful questions and plenty to think about afterwards. One of the things I love most about these talks is that I always come away having learned something too.

Yesterday really reinforced something for me.

There is lots of support available to help us understand ADHD. But what happens when you're the person carrying the day-to-day responsibility on your own? The decisions, the routines, the emotional load, the self-doubt after a difficult day... and there's no one there to say, "You're doing okay."

It's made me wonder whether there's a need for something a little different.

Perhaps a small teaching and support session for parents who are carrying that responsibility aloneβ€”not just to learn, but to connect with others who truly understand what that feels like.

I'd love to know your thoughts.

Would something like that be helpful to you or someone you know?

πŸ’™ How the developing brain influences reactions
πŸ’™ Why understanding your child changes the way you respond
πŸ’™ Practical insights to help you feel more confident as a parent

The only way children with ADHD will learn it through their own interpretation of experiences and how their emotions cope with that event. Teaching children your own narrative can lead them to misunderstand their developmental journey and struggle with decision making later
