A recovered hepatitis C patient in Wales is urging people in at-risk groups to get tested for the virus, as if left untreated, it can cause liver damage and cancer of the liver. Treatment for hepatitis C is highly effective and is a simple course of daily tablets with very few side effects.

Andy Green, was initially diagnosed with hepatitis C in the US in the 1990s, after going to his doctor suffering with extreme fatigue.
β€œMy diagnosis was a shock and I don’t know how I got it. But the doctor wasn’t interested in how I acquired it and so immediately I felt there was no stigma and we just focused on treating the illness.”

Chronic hepatitis C is a serious condition that can lead to liver cancer and cirrhosis, it is therefore important that anyone who believes they may have been at risk gets tested.

Testing is free and confidential through our Test and Post serivce: https://www.shwales.online/wales-sti-testing-kit-test-and-post/

Let’s talk about cervical screening

Going for cervical screening for the first time can feel daunting, especially if you’re not sure what to expect. That’s why open, supportive conversations really matter.

Mums, carers, older sisters, aunties and friends – you can make a real difference. Talking openly can help your loved ones feel more informed, less anxious, and more confident about attending their first screening appointment when invited.

You can help by explaining what happens, reassuring them that it’s usually quick, and reminding them why it’s important. Cervical screening checks for HPV (a common virus) that can cause changes in the cervix, and finding these early helps prevent cancer. Even if someone has had the HPV vaccine, it’s still important to attend screening when invited.

Let’s create safe spaces to ask questions, share experiences, and support each other πŸ’œ

A simple conversation today could help save a life tomorrow.

😑 Anger is a normal emotion – learning how to manage it is a skill.

One of the best ways to help children cope with anger is to spot the warning signs early. Talk with your child about what happens in their body when they start to feel angry.

They might notice:
❀️ Their heart beating faster
πŸ’ͺ Tight or tense muscles
😬 Clenched teeth or jaw
πŸ‘Š Fists tightening
😀 Faster breathing
πŸ”₯ Feeling hot or flushed

When they spot these signs, encourage them to:
βœ… Take slow, deep breaths
βœ… Count to 10 before reacting
βœ… Move to a calm, quiet space
βœ… Talk about how they're feeling
βœ… Squeeze a stress ball, draw, or do another calming activity
βœ… Go for a walk or burn off energy through physical activity
πŸ’™ Remind your child that it's okay to feel angry. What's important is learning healthy ways to express and manage those feelings.

Looking for an NHS dentist?
The Dental Access Portal allows people to register their details so they can be matched with an NHS dental practice when appointments become available. NHS dental practices are no longer holding their own waiting lists for new routine patients, so it is important that anyone looking for routine NHS dental treatment registers on the portal.

People can register online here: https://dhcw.nhs.wales/product-directory/our-digital-services/dental-access-portal/

Support is available for anyone who needs help completing their registration by calling 01495 241234.

Access an NHS dentist in Wales for routine dental treatment for yourself or for someone in your care.
