“No pain, no gain” has a lot to answer for. Effort is useful. Challenge is useful. Feeling your muscles work is useful.

But pain, dizziness, injury niggles, exhaustion and pushing through warning signs are not badges of honour.

Fitness should help you live better - not leave you limping through the rest of the week.

Thursday evening fitness class is on this week.

No choreography. No shouting. No expectation to keep up with anyone else.

Just a friendly, structured session to help you build strength, confidence and consistency. Come as you are, work at your level, and leave feeling better.

June seems like a good month to talk about effort.

Not the dramatic, white-knuckle, push-through-at-all-costs version. The quieter kind. The kind where you show up, listen to your body, build gradually, rest when needed, and don’t treat exhaustion as a badge of honour.

Because strength isn’t just what you can endure. Sometimes strength is knowing when to stop.

Two days. Another Outdoor First Aid renewal completed.

Every few years I spend the weekend to refresh and reassess my first aid skills - not because I expect things to go wrong, but because when you work with people outdoors and through movement, being prepared matters.

From wellbeing walks and trail adventures to fitness sessions and retreats, I’m often supporting people in environments where help isn’t immediately around the corner.

This training goes far beyond emergency first aid. It covers everything from fractures, head injuries and medical emergencies to environmental conditions, casualty assessment and decision-making under pressure.

What I value most is that it builds confidence as much as competence.
Not panic. Not guesswork.
Calm, practical action when someone needs support.

Thankfully, serious incidents are rare - and I hope they stay that way - but my clients deserve to know that their safety is something I take seriously behind the scenes, not just when it’s convenient.

The certificate lasts three years.
The responsibility lasts every single session. ❤️

🎉💚👀BIG news! The Biosphere Festival programme is now live! 🎉💚👀
www.iwbiosphere.org/biospherefestival

We’re really excited to announce that we have over 100 events taking place across the Isle of Wight this year. Organised by a wonderful mix of local organisations, creatives and communities, with many being free or low cost!

We've got nature safaris, UV night walks, wild beer fermentation, beach yoga, creative writing, open days, hands on volunteer opportunities, woodland drumming, guided walks, talks, family activities, citizen science, film screenings, workshops, dance, performance, storytelling, music, art, craft, history, carnival, gardening, permaculture, fashion, and so much more. Many of the events are unique to the festival and offer experiences that you wouldn’t usually get outside of these 9 days.

Lots of events require booking and have limited space so make sure you check the listing and reserve your spot if required!

The festival is taking place between June 27th and July 5th and is a celebration of our UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, as well as the people and places that make the Island so special.

Check out the brand new programme on our website https://www.iwbiosphere.org/biospherefestival for the full list of events
