Heatwave reminder: look after yourself and each other at home

Hot weather can be harder on the body than you might think – especially for older people, young children, and those with long-term health conditions.

Know the signs of heat exhaustion:
• Tiredness, dizziness or headache
• Feeling or being sick
• Sweating a lot, pale or clammy skin
• Cramps
• High temperature, thirst or irritability

If someone has these symptoms, they need to cool down quickly and drink fluids.

✅ How to help:
• Move them somewhere cool
• Remove unnecessary clothing
• Give plenty of water (or rehydration drinks)
• Cool their skin – use cool water, fans, or cold packs
• Stay with them

They should feel better within 30 minutes.

Get urgent help if symptoms get worse or don’t improve – look for confusion, very high temperature, hot skin without sweating, or loss of consciousness.

EDIT: the number of calls received shows lower than the actual number of calls received due to an upgrade in our telephone system on 17th March

There was an issue with our new phone system earlier this afternoon, where an incorrect ‘closed for training’ message was being played.

Please be assured that the surgery is open as usual, and the problem has now been fixed.
