🐾💙 A very special new partnership at Orchard House! 💙🐾

We were delighted to welcome Ability Dogs 4 Young People IoW to Orchard House, where our residents enjoyed meeting Cyril, Clive and Sami and learning about the amazing work therapy dogs do to bring comfort, companionship and joy to others.

We’re also incredibly excited to announce that Orchard House is now sponsoring Zara, Cyril’s sister, who is currently training to become a Therapy Dog! 🐶❤️

Our residents loved hearing about Zara’s journey and sharing their own memories of beloved pets.

A huge thank you to the Ability Dogs 4 Young People IoW team for such a wonderful visit — and we can’t wait to have you back again for another furry visit! 🐾💙

🍻 Welcome to The Orchard Arms! ☀️🌼

Yesterday afternoon, our garden was transformed into The Orchard Arms, giving residents the chance to enjoy a traditional pub experience in the sunshine.

Every drink served at The Orchard Arms was 0.0% alcohol-free, including refreshing shandies, pink gin & lemonade, lime & soda and white wine & lemonade, ensuring everyone could raise a glass and be part of the fun. Alongside the drinks, residents tucked into classic pub favourites, from pork scratchings and Scampi Fries to popcorn, creating an authentic pub atmosphere for all.

With family, friends and staff joining us, there was plenty of laughter, conversation and wonderful memories made throughout the afternoon. It was fantastic to see everyone relaxing together, sharing stories and enjoying a taste of the local pub without leaving home.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make The Orchard Arms such a wonderful success. Days like these remind us that it’s often the simple moments—good company, great conversation and a welcoming atmosphere—that create the happiest memories. ❤️🍻

🐿️ Guess who came back to Orchard House? 🐿️

Last year, our wonderful friend Christopher and his cheeky chipmunk mascot paid us a very special visit, bringing smiles to our residents and gifting us a beautiful handcrafted flower box for Orchard House.

This month, they returned once again – this time with a stunning handcrafted sign to add to our home. ❤️

Our residents were absolutely delighted to welcome back their furry friend, sharing plenty of smiles, laughs, cuddles and photo opportunities. It’s always lovely to see familiar faces, and visits like these create such special memories for everyone.

A huge thank you to Christopher for your kindness, generosity and continued support. Your creativity and community spirit mean so much to us, and we can’t wait to find the perfect place for our new sign.

🤠🌵 YEEHAW! What a fantastic Wild West Day! 🌵🤠

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon in the sunshine as we transformed the garden into the Wild West! With country music, dancing, cowboy hats, delicious treats and plenty of laughter, there were smiles all around from start to finish.

It was lovely to see everyone embracing the theme, singing along, showing off their dance moves, relaxing in the sunshine and making wonderful memories together. Our amazing team of cowboys and cowgirls certainly looked the part and had just as much fun bringing the Wild West to life!

We reckon our Wild West hoedown was a rootin’ tootin’ success, and we can’t wait for our next themed adventure! 🤠⭐

🍓 A Sweet Summer Afternoon at Orchard House 🍓

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful Strawberries & Cream Prom’s Afternoon, beautifully accompanied by the talented Bella Brown Harpist on the harp.

The relaxing harp music created a lovely atmosphere while everyone enjoyed delicious strawberries and cream together. It was a wonderful opportunity to reminisce, socialise and simply enjoy a peaceful summer afternoon with friends.

A big thank you to Bella Brown for another beautiful performance and to everyone who joined us to make the afternoon so special. ❤️

🍦 Ice Cream Van Day at Orchard House! ☀️

With the sunshine treating us to another beautiful summer’s day, there was only one thing to do… welcome the ice cream van! 🍦🌞

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed choosing their favourite ice creams and spending time together outdoors. Seeing so many smiles, hearing laughter, and sharing such simple moments of joy made it a truly special day.

👰 Resident Celebrates Granddaughter’s Wedding Blessing 🤵

The team at Derham House Care Home in were delighted to help one of their much-loved residents, June, enjoy a very special day when she attended her granddaughter’s wedding blessing at St Helen & St Giles Church in Rainham, surrounded by family and friends.

June was delighted to witness such an important milestone in her granddaughter’s life and to share in the joy of the occasion.
Following the service, the celebrations continued back at Derham House, where family and friends gathered for a reception.

June, who recently turned 89, commented: “I have had such a marvellous day, my granddaughter, Keeley, looks absolutely beautiful, I am over the moon for her and Daniel, they are such a gorgeous couple. It has been fantastic to celebrate with them and have all my family together.”

What an unforgettable day for all involved! 👏

⛳️🤸‍♀️ Get Ready to Get Barchester Moving ⛳️🤸‍♀️

From 6th to 12th July, residents, patients, families, friends and colleagues across the country will be getting active as part of Get Barchester Moving Week 2026 – a fun-filled week of movement and fundraising in support of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

There’ll be something for everyone – from gentle exercises and dance sessions to sponsored walks, live entertainment and more – all designed to put the ‘fun’ into fundraising while promoting movement and wellbeing.

The Foundation helps older people and those living with disabilities stay connected to their local communities.

Let’s get moving and make a difference together.

⭐ Waterside Court Donates £1,000 to Cycling Charity ⭐

Waterside Court Care Home in recently presented Cycling Without Age with a cheque for £1,000 to support their wonderful contribution in enriching the lives of care home residents and the wider Wallingford community.

Cycling Without Age in Wallingford offers free trishaw rides to residents of care homes and day centres and for elderly local residents, helping to combat loneliness and social isolation.

The grant has been awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Mike Heath MBE, Operations Manager, said, “The donation is very much welcomed and appreciated and will be a huge help in continuing our contribution to the wellbeing and enjoyment of Wallingford residents.”

Heather, a resident at the home, shared, “Going through Wallingford Town Centre and waving out to people I know, makes my day. We feel very much part of the community.” 👏

🎉 Hafan Y Coed Celebrates Excellent CIW Ratings 🎉

Hafan Y Coed Care Home in passed a recent Care Inspectorate Wales inspection with ‘Excellent’ ratings - the best possible ratings – across the board, after being praised for operating a safe, well-maintained, caring and well-led service.

The report stated that there was a strong sense of community and teamwork in the home nurtured by a very well-respected management team who promote choice, independence and positive wellbeing outcomes for their residents.

A relative commented: “They go over and above what’s required. It’s the thoughtful little things, you don’t need to ask, they just do it.”

Our COO, Natasha Lazovic, visited Hafan Y Coed to congratulate the team on the home’s Excellent ratings and award every member of staff a £500 voucher to celebrate their achievement. She shared: “Hafan Y Coed is a fantastic home delivering exceptional care to its residents, I couldn’t be prouder of General Manager, Sarah, and every single member of staff here. I am delighted to be here today to congratulate everyone personally, meet the residents and chat to the team about their wonderful work.”

⭐ Elgar Court Wins Prestigious Award ⭐

We’re happy to share that Elgar Court Care Home in has scooped the Best Residential Care Home Award for 2026 in Worcestershire. The home has been chosen out of a number of care homes across Worcestershire.

Elgar Court is a luxury residential care home and opened in July 2023. The care home offers bespoke person-centred residential and dementia care, and is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Malvern Hills – the town which was voted in 2026 as the best place to live in the Midlands.

🚴‍♀️ Tour de Barchester 2026 Highlights 🚴‍♂️

We’ve created a lovely video showcasing some of the highlights from this year’s Tour de Barchester – a gruelling 200-mile cycling challenge.

Thanks to the incredible support of our colleagues, care homes, sponsors and suppliers, we raised over £64,000 for Barchester's Charitable Foundation, which supports older people and other adults living with a disability or a mental health condition by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event. Your energy, generosity and determination made all the difference.

🎉 Elderwood House is Now Complete 🎉

We’re thrilled to share that the Mayor of Swanley, Councillor Michael Horwood, has celebrated the completion of our new luxury care home in , Elderwood House, in front of invited guests from the local community.

Our CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, and General Manager, Liza Burchell, hosted the event and invited guests to view the stunning new 62-bed care home.

The home has been designed with residents’ comfort in mind and the team at Elderwood House will offer residential support, respite stays and dementia care, all delivered by a dedicated and passionate team of trained professionals.
