UPDATE — I’m having to exfil at Freshwater.
This isn’t the update I wanted to write, but I’m having to pause the 70-mile attempt at Freshwater.
Today has thrown pretty much everything at me.
My bladder pack has broken, meaning I’ve lost my main way of carrying enough water for the next stint. A diversion also added around an hour and a half to the journey, and then my phone charger broke — thankfully, I managed to get that replaced.
Physically, things have stacked up too.
Both feet are now completely bandaged, I’ve cut my ankle open, and my new side pouch hasn’t worked as intended. This caused the pack to pull heavily down my right-hand side for miles and has created some pretty severe problems with my back.
Any one of these individually, I’d probably find a way around.
But combined — especially losing reliable water storage as we head towards the evening and darkness — continuing stops being determination and starts becoming an unnecessary risk.
I’m absolutely gutted. Mentally, I still want to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
But this isn’t the end of the walk.
I’ll complete the remaining route over the next few weeks in stages, coming back stronger and finishing what I set out to do properly.
Today is a pause, not the finish line.
To everyone who has donated, sponsored miles, messaged, shared the challenge, walked with me or followed along — thank you.
The challenge may be continuing differently than planned, but the reason behind it hasn’t changed.
This was for Mum.
This was for Mountbatten.
And this is only one chapter of Endure Together.
We build strength through adversity, inspire hope through action, and show that no one has to face life’s hardest moments alone.
Because we Endure Together. 💜🌻
