Happy Retirement, Maria! 💐

Wishing Maria a very happy retirement after an incredible 39 years of dedicated service to the NHS! ❤️

Throughout all those years, you have been the perfect example of what it means to be compassionate, caring and committed. You have been an amazing role model and an excellent mentor to so many students, sharing your knowledge, experience and kindness so generously.

To all of us in ABUHB, you have been a fantastic colleague, and your presence, support and friendship will be greatly missed.

Maria, thank you for everything you have given to the NHS, to your colleagues, to our students and, most importantly, to the families and women you have cared for over the years.

Enjoy every minute of your retirement — you’ve certainly earned it! 🥂🌸

With very best wishes for this exciting new chapter. ❤️
Happy Retirement, Maria! 🎉

As first-time parents, nothing could have prepared us for the journey that brought our daughter, Isla, safely into the world.

After being induced on Tuesday, spending several days in hospital and ultimately having an emergency caesarean section on Friday evening, we experienced every emotion imaginable. While there were moments that were difficult, we will never forget the kindness, compassion and professionalism shown by the incredible staff who cared for us throughout.

From the moment we arrived, every member of the team made us feel supported, informed and cared for. They guided us through a long and emotional labour, answered our questions with patience, and helped us navigate some difficult decisions with reassurance and compassion.

When plans changed and we were told an emergency caesarean section was needed, we were understandably overwhelmed. But the care and encouragement we received turned one of the most frightening moments of our lives into one we can now look back on with immense gratitude.

One comment in particular has stayed with us: "Think of this as your baby's first birthday party we're throwing for her." Those words completely changed our mindset and are something we'll remember forever.

Although welcoming babies into the world is part of their everyday work, for us this was the biggest day of our lives. The kindness shown to both of us throughout our stay made an enormous difference, and we will never forget it.

Thank you for helping bring our beautiful daughter safely into the world. You are an absolute credit to The Grange and the NHS.

With heartfelt thanks,
Mia, Tom & baby Isla 💜

While the temptation to cool off may be high, be careful around open water including river and lakes. Be aware of the risks and please supervise children playing in water at all times.
