Waterstones Isle of Wight, a favourite place for me and my ‘copy & paste’

A great selection bought to add to the client space library and of course mini me, found a couple for herself, from the teen section….

📚 A book can be much more than a story….

For many children, books create a safe distance from difficult feelings or experiences.

Talking about a character can feel much easier than talking about themselves.

Through stories, children can explore emotions, worries, relationships, and challenges without feeling exposed or overwhelmed.

This gentle process of projection can help them make sense of their own inner world while feeling safe and in control.

Sometimes the conversation doesn’t start with “How are you feeling?”

It starts with…

“What do you think was happening for that character?” 📖💭

And that’s where the magic often begins. ✨

You play with puppets?

Ohhhhhh Yes…… 🦉

Not all impact is measured by what you ‘do’ …..

Sometimes it’s measured by what never happens.

The crisis that was prevented.
The exclusion that didn’t occur.
The family that stayed connected.
The young person who remained engaged.
The adult who finally felt heard.

That’s the power of early intervention.

Emotion Jars 🎨

There is no right or wrong way to create them. They can help children, young people and adults explore feelings that are sometimes difficult to put into words.

They are incredibly versatile. A jar can be filled with colours, water, sand, small figures, objects, words, drawings, glitter, stones, or even a scream that needs somewhere safe to exist…..

The process encourages creativity, emotional expression, reflection and conversation, while giving felt experience a tangible shape that can be seen and explored, gently…..

These are still drying before I add the details, but they’re already starting to tell a story……

What would your emotion jars look like?

Authenticity goes both ways.

If I invite clients to show up as their real selves, Its important I do the same.

Not perfectly polished, not the stereotypical, and certainly not the ‘expert’ …..

This translates in what I wear too!

👖Some days I’m smart-casual

🩴Some days I’m inner surf chick

🥀Some days I’m gothic revival

🌵Some days I’m 70’s western

None of those versions of are more or less professional.

They’re all me.

And that’s exactly the point ✌️

‼️⚠️ SESSION CANCELLED ⚠️‼️

Unfortunately today’s Tap into Calm™️ session has had to be cancelled.

I have a poorly child at home who needs to be the centre of my attention whilst she recovers.

Music has a way of reaching places that words sometimes can’t.

This record player sits quietly in my therapy room, today playing this banger….
A gift from my son and future daughter-in-law….

Music can transport us.

It can soothe a dysregulated nervous system.

It can bring memories flooding back in an instant.

It can help us feel emotions we haven’t yet found words for.

A piece of music can change our breathing, soften our muscles, bring tears to our eyes, or create a sense of safety and connection.

That’s somatics in action.
The body responding before the mind has caught up.

Happy Friday x

Before I was this woman, I was just a girl who felt most at peace, by the sea.

Some places do not just hold memories - They hold parts of us.

Is your child’s school ahead of the curve, in supporting children holistically?

I work with some AMAZING schools.

And it’s such a compliment, when they want to rebook and reinvest in their pupils, with our therapeutic intervention programmes

And tomorrow will be all about celebrating this terms cohorts, and their successes, exploring themselves and the insight they have developed!

So so proud of them

“ 🐆 Leopards can’t change their spots.”

🙄

It’s a phrase we hear often, usually when someone has hurt us, disappointed us, or repeated a pattern we desperately hoped they would outgrow.

Here is a lil thing I want to whisper…. people are far more complicated than that!

We all have “spots”.

The parts of ourselves shaped by our experiences, our wounds, our fears, our beliefs, and the ways we learnt to survive.

Some of those spots serve or have served, us well. Others create patterns that leave us stuck, disconnected, or repeating the same painful cycles.

The truth is, lasting change rarely comes from shame, force, or trying to become someone else entirely.

It comes from understanding.

From becoming curious about why those spots developed in the first place.

From learning which parts of ourselves need compassion, which need boundaries, and which need a different way of being.

Can people change?

Sometimes.

Can people manage their patterns better?

Absolutely.

But whether change is possible, wanted, or sustainable is something only that person can truly discover for themselves.

Therapy isn’t about fixing people.

It’s about creating space to understand yourself more deeply, embrace your humanity, and decide what you want to do with the spots you carry.

And perhaps most importantly, learning which spots belong to you, and which belong to everyone else.

Even more insight to my leopard print collection 🐆

If you’d like a space to explore that, let’s talk.

🌿

You might notice the pickle picture on the wall, in my client space.

It always makes me smile…because a pickle is just a cucumber that’s been through a process of change.

It can’t go back to what it was before.

Therapy can be a bit like that.

As we heal, we learn, grow and sometimes discover that boundaries are necessary. We become clearer about what we need, what we will accept, and what we won’t.

The interesting thing about boundaries (and pickles) is that not everybody likes them.

But boundaries aren’t there to make us more likeable, they’re there to help us feel safe enough to be ourselves.
