🙄”I’m probably being dramatic” ➡️ what you might’ve noticed was that you were feeling hurt

🙄 “I should just let it go” ➡️ maybe it’s something you haven’t really processed yet

🙄 “I don’t want to make a big deal” ➡️ Your feelings really are a big deal

🙄 “Everyone else copes fine” ➡️ you don’t actually know how another person is coping underneath their exterior

When we dismiss something it doesn’t necessarily make it disappear. because sometimes there’s something underneath that hasn’t had much space to be noticed, understood or felt.

You don’t have to prove that something is bad enough before you’re allowed to be affected by it.

Saying yes when your whole body is screaming no isn’t a character trait.

It’s called fawning which is a stress response and lives right up there with the fight, flight and freeze response.

Somewhere along life’s journey keeping everyone happy became the safest option.

So you got very, very good at it.

The tricky part is that it doesn’t feel like fear, it feels like being helpful.

The good news is that you can be a kind person AND you can have boundaries and say no.

Those two things aren’t in a competition and they can live and work together.

You can be kind AND say no.😀

If you’re thinking about counselling and would like to find out a little more I offer a free 20-minute introductory chat, with no obligation…link in bio 😀

You spend all day doing things for everyone else…

Then finally get into bed and your brain suddenly …

It thinks of a creative idea, a life decision and seventeen other things that you need to remember to do tomorrow.

Does anyone else’s brain do its best thinking at bedtime?

☐ “Sorry, can I just ask something quickly”

☐ “Sorry, I know you’re busy, but—”

☐ “Sorry, this is probably a silly question”

☐ “Sorry, I’ll be quick”

☐ “Sorry” (for something that wasn’t your fault at all)

If you ticked a few, you’re certainly not alone.

Sometimes “sorry” can become a little automatic.

We use it when we want to make a request.
Or
To make sure we’re not being a bother by taking up too much time, space or attention.

And often, there’s nothing wrong with what we’re asking for at all.

You’re allowed to ask a question without apologising for having one.

👉A little challenge for this week…💪

Notice how often you say sorry when what you actually mean is:

“Excuse me.”

“Can I ask you something?”

“I need some help.”

“I have a different opinion.”

“I need a little more time.”

Because sometimes “sorry” isn’t really an apology at all and might be a way of us testing the waters or making sure the other person is comfortable before we allow ourselves to be.

Who always gets asked to help out and fix things?

The one who never says no of course!

So you get good at carrying it, at smoothing things over and making everyone around you feel comfortable.

People see that and call it “strong.”

But have you ever thought that it might not actually be strength at all and that in some ways maybe it’s fear and fear is great at wearing really good masks…

👉The calm
👉The competence
👉The “I’ve got it.”

Being Capable and being okay aren’t the same thing.

Just resonate with you?

My life is rich, in part, because of my job which is…

…helping people feel a little less alone.

Listening to what matters

and being there to witness those moments when something shifts.

That feels pretty rich to me.

👉I’d love to know what adds to the richness of your life.

Not everything valuable has a price tag.

Sometimes the meaningful luxuries are the ones we stop noticing.

✨ Waking up without dread.
✨ A conversation where you don’t have to explain yourself.
✨ Feeling safe enough to say “not today.”
✨ An afternoon with nothing urgent to fix.
✨ Laughing until you can laugh no more
✨ Being able to rest without earning it first
✨ Someone remembering the little things about you
✨ A cup of tea that’s still warm when you drink it 💖
✨ A walk where you don’t feel the need to be productive.
✨ The freedom to change your mind.
✨ Feeling at home in your own company.
✨ Knowing you don’t have to carry everything on your own.

In a world that constantly reminds us of what we’re missing, it can be easy to overlook what can quietly sustain us.

💛 What would you add to this list?
