Claire and I have just returned from the Dental Technology Show at the NEC, and what a thought-provoking couple of days it was!
Here's what stood out:
🌍 Offshore lab work is on the rise — there's a clear and growing push toward cheap overseas lab work, with 'free' digital scanners being used as the hook to draw practices in.
🤖 AI dependence is increasing — this signals a real shift, with local technicians needing to take on more advanced, complex work in order to survive and thrive.
👏 Female-dominant speaker presence — genuinely great to see, and a very welcome change from previous years.
🦷 Full arch restorations dominated the technical lectures — whether through implant workflow or digital denture workflow, alongside a strong lean toward the business of dentistry.

Whilst the majority of lectures argued that layering ceramic is unnecessary, I remain optimistic. Single centrals, lateral incisors, and other single crown restorations are still very much in demand — and these are exactly the cases where hand-layered ceramics make all the difference. Matching a natural, individual tooth requires a level of artistry and skill that no milled or printed restoration can fully replicate. For this reason, we will continue to develop and maintain our layering skills, and will always offer the highest quality, individually crafted restorations tailored to each specific patient.

Full mouth rehab heading out the door this afternoon, Zirconia sleeve on Ti bar on the upper and composite on Ti bar on the lower. For me this has become the standard for Full mouth rehabs over the last few years.

In a bid to improve our carbon footprint we are transitioning to a packaging product from this fantastic innovative company https://www.flexi-hex.com/ . We are just finishing off our old packaging materials (it would be more environmentally unfriendly if we simply threw them away!) and then we will be rolling this entirely recyclable product out! Not only is it environmentally friendly but it will also protect our products to the same standards as our current foam products! Flexi-Hex

4 plates of prints done today with between 6 and 8 models per print….. each print in under an hour! This printer is starting to look like the beast it’s meant to be!! I think that all our models will be done on this in the very near future leaving the 2 Asiga’s to print other materials 😉…. Bracon LtdNexa3D

Thanks Mark Welch and Bracon Ltd for your time today installing the latest Printer in the lab! This XIP printer joins the 2 Asiga Max’s to take up the bulk of the model printing.
