🍽️❀️ Good food. Great company. Wonderful memories.

There's something special about enjoying a meal out together, and our recent trip to Toby Carvery was no exception!

Residents tucked into delicious roast dinners, treated themselves to a well-earned pudding (because who can resist?), and spent the afternoon chatting, laughing and sharing stories around the table.

Outings like these are about so much more than the food. They're about friendship, making memories and enjoying the simple pleasures of life together.

We can't wait for our next adventure! πŸ’™

There's never a dull moment at Somerforde!

Our residents have enjoyed a wonderful variety of visits and activities recently. The soothing sounds of our talented harpist filled the home with beautiful music, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

We also welcomed a very special animal visitor, bringing along a delightful collection of furry and feathered friends. There were plenty of smiles as residents stroked, cuddled and even held some of the animals.

For those feeling energetic, our fun exercise class got everyone moving, stretching and laughing together, proving that keeping active can be great fun at any age!

To round it all off, one of our favourite singers had everyone singing along to much-loved classics, with plenty of toe-tapping, clapping and happy memories shared.

At Somerforde, every day is filled with opportunities to connect, laugh and enjoy life together. ❀️

It is so important as we get older to keep moving and remain active. At Somerforde, we encourage all our residents to keep physically active and busy. Lauren, our lovely activities manager ensures there are a range of exciting activities to provide something for everyone, ranging from football golf, skittles and bowls to tennis and active gardening. An exercise man comes in regularly to put everyone through their paces and the sense of camaraderie lifts the spirits and encourages participation and some healthy competition!

We all know that music can have an impact on our mood and decision making. But did you know it can keep our brains ticking along? At Somerforde, there are regular musical activities, guest singers and opportunities to experience music.

A study at the University of Geneva found that playing music actively resulted in a significant increase in grey matter volume in four brain areas, linked to high-level cognitive function, including the cerebellum.

Music has the power to evoke strong positive emotions and elevate your mood. It can lower your body’s level of cortisol, a hormone that can contribute to feelings of stress and anxiety. It can also trigger other chemical reactions in the brain, stimulating positive feelings.

For ageing adults who have age-related memory issues, music has the power to actually bring back memories. Music can also encourage us to stay in the present - elderly patients often move along to a beat and sing lyrics to a song, even if they can’t remember current events. It can be a way for those who are non-verbal to communicate to their loved ones.

There seems to be no end to the benefits of music in old age, and the potential it has for keeping us young.

πŸ’™ Understanding care home fees doesn't have to be complicated.

At Somerforde, we believe in providing exceptional care that's tailored to each individual. Because everyone's needs are different, every care package is personalised, and so are our fees.

Whether your care is funded privately or through Social Services or the NHS, we use the same fair, needs-based approach for every resident.

We know funding care can feel overwhelming, which is why we're always happy to guide you through the options and recommend trusted organisations, such as Age UK and Care Direct UK, for independent advice.

If you have questions about care costs or funding, we're here to help you every step of the way. πŸ’™

🌿✨ Beautiful surroundings can make a world of difference.

At Somerforde, we believe that where you live should lift your spirits. A light, welcoming environment, comfortable spaces, and beautiful gardens all play an important role in supporting wellbeing, independence, and quality of life.

That's why we're continually investing in our home. Our gardens are currently being transformed with sensory planting, colourful wildflower meadows, and raised beds, giving residents who enjoy gardening the chance to keep doing what they love.

Because feeling at home isn't just about great care, it's about being surrounded by beauty, nature, and spaces that bring joy every day. πŸ’™πŸŒΈ
