🍽️ Our New Menu – Residents Feedback...

At Ashburton House, our residents’ views are an important part of how we shape everyday life in the home, including what appears on our menus.

Following the introduction of our new menu, we took the time to ask residents what they thought. It was lovely to hear so much positive feedback, with comments about the variety of meals, generous portions, presentation and the overall quality of the food.

Residents also highlighted how much they appreciate having their individual needs and preferences catered for, as well as being able to ask for the things they enjoy. And, of course, the puddings received a few well-deserved mentions too!

We’re really pleased to see the new menu being enjoyed and will continue to listen to residents as we develop our dining choices throughout the year.

A big thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts – your feedback really does help us make mealtimes at Ashburton House the best they can be. ❤️

🍏 Fresh from the garden...

It really doesn’t get much fresher than this! Our residents have been out in the garden picking apples straight from the trees at Ashburton House.

With plenty of fruit ready to be enjoyed, it was a lovely opportunity to spend some time outdoors, enjoy the sunshine and make the most of what our own garden has to offer. There’s something very satisfying about choosing an apple from the tree yourself – especially when it has been growing just a few steps from home.

Simple moments like this bring plenty of conversation too, from memories of apple picking and childhood gardens to ideas about what we might make with our harvest.

A lovely afternoon in the garden, and we’re looking forward to putting our freshly picked apples to good use. 🍎🌳

🌒 A memorable evening....

We were certainly prepared for the partial solar eclipse! Some of our residents headed outside to watch it for themselves, while others chose to enjoy the live coverage from the comfort of the home.

With the correct eclipse glasses in place, and a special filter used for the phone camera, everyone was able to enjoy the occasion safely.

It also sparked some lovely conversation about the total solar eclipse of 1999, with residents sharing memories of where they were and what they remembered from that day. It was a great opportunity for a little reminiscing alongside experiencing something special together in the present.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening at Ashburton House, and definitely one to remember. 🌒✨

🌒 A Special Evening in the Skies Above Ashburton...

Residents and staff at Ashburton House Care Home will be looking to the skies this evening as Devon experiences a very impressive partial solar eclipse.

Here in Devon, the eclipse is expected to begin at around 6:18pm, reaching its maximum at approximately 7:15pm, before coming to an end at around 8:08pm. At its peak, the Sun will be very heavily obscured by the Moon, making this a particularly special astronomical event to experience together.

We’re hoping to give residents the opportunity to enjoy the occasion, share memories of eclipses they may have seen before and experience something a little different together.

As always, safety will come first. Nobody should look directly at the Sun without suitable solar viewing protection. Proper eclipse glasses or safe indirect viewing methods should be used, as ordinary sunglasses do not provide adequate protection.

☀️ What a fantastic afternoon at Ashburton House! 🎶🌿

Our Summer Party was a wonderful success, with residents, families, friends and members of our team coming together for an afternoon full of music, good food, games and plenty of laughter.

It was lovely to see the garden so busy and full of life. We had live entertainment, a BBQ and refreshments, tombola prizes, “guess how many sweets” and, of course, the ever-popular Splat a Rat! Most importantly, there was plenty of time to sit together, catch up and simply enjoy one another’s company.

Seeing our residents surrounded by their families and friends, enjoying the entertainment and taking in the atmosphere, made the afternoon particularly special. The smiles in the photographs really say it all.

Events like this take a huge amount of work behind the scenes, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.

A particular thank you to Karen, Frankie, Basil, Emma and Ed, who gave up their own time to help, and a massive thank you to Heather for preparing such a wonderful spread of food for everyone to enjoy.

We would also like to thank the members of our team who came along on their day off with their own families and loved ones. It was genuinely lovely to see so many familiar faces joining us simply because they wanted to be part of the afternoon.
And finally, a very special thank you to the team who were working on the day.

Hosting an event of this size, with so many additional visitors around the home, takes organisation, patience and teamwork, and you did a fantastic job making sure residents remained at the heart of everything.

Thank you to every single person who helped, attended, donated, cooked, served, entertained, organised or simply came along to support us. You helped make our Ashburton House Summer Party a very special day, and we couldn’t have done it without you. 💚🌳☀️

Another busy and enjoyable day at Ashburton House, with plenty of activities planned to keep everyone engaged while staying comfortable indoors during the hot weather.

Residents spent time creating some lovely flower arrangements, carefully choosing and preparing the stems before displaying them around the home. There was also plenty happening in the kitchen, where a batch of homemade jam tarts was prepared, baked and finished with a light dusting of icing sugar. They certainly looked delicious!

Preparations for our upcoming Summer Fête are also well underway, with residents helping to organise ideas and add those important finishing touches ahead of the big day.

To round things off, we enjoyed a seated game of ten-pin bowling. It brought out a little friendly competition, plenty of encouragement and lots of smiles as the pins came tumbling down.

A varied day filled with creativity, familiar pastimes, gentle movement and good company — just the way we like it at Ashburton House. 🌸🎳🥧

☀️ Our Ashburton House Summer Fête is almost here!

Join us on Saturday 8th August from 12pm–3pm for a fun-filled afternoon for residents, families, friends and the local community.

There will be plenty to enjoy, including summer nibbles, mocktails, ice cream, cakes, sweet cones, teas and coffees, alongside musical entertainment and lots of traditional fête favourites. Have a go at the tombola, bowling, Splat the Rat and guessing how many sweets are in the jar, then take a look at the lovely items on our crochet stall.

It promises to be a relaxed and cheerful afternoon with something for everyone. We would love to see you there and share in the summer fun! 🌻🎶🍰

We are delighted to have created a beautiful new Family Room—a calm, comfortable and welcoming space where residents can spend quality time with the people who matter most.

Whether it’s sharing a cup of tea, enjoying a quiet conversation, celebrating a special occasion or simply relaxing together, the room offers families a little more privacy while still feeling part of life at Ashburton House.
