As the warmer summer months continue, we know how important it is for families and those attending a funeral service to feel comfortable.
We’re pleased to share that air conditioning has now been installed in our main hall at Newton Abbot, helping us maintain a calm and comfortable temperature throughout a service, even on the warmest days.

It’s a small change, but an important one in ensuring everyone who comes through our doors is cared for and comfortable.

For families looking for a gentler and more natural way to say goodbye, a green burial can offer a meaningful alternative to a traditional funeral.
Green burials often take place in peaceful natural surroundings and may use biodegradable coffins or shrouds. The farewell can still include music, readings, flowers and personal touches that reflect the life and wishes of the person being remembered.

We support families from Newton Abbot, Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Chudleigh, Dartmoor and the surrounding South Devon communities, helping them understand the available options and arrange a farewell that feels personal, respectful and right for them.

Honouring life. Respecting nature.

Thinking about direct cremation? It is important to ask the right questions.

Direct cremation is becoming a more common choice for families looking for a simpler funeral option. For some, it can be the right decision — but it is important to understand exactly what is included, what is not included, and what support is available.

Recent media coverage and advertising rulings within the funeral sector have highlighted how important clear, honest information is when families are comparing funeral options.

Before choosing a direct cremation, families may wish to ask:

* Where will my loved one be cared for?
* Will there be an opportunity to say goodbye?
* Is there any service or gathering included?
* What support is available to the family?
* Are there any additional costs?
* Can personal touches still be included?

At Christophers’ Family Funerals, we believe every family should be given clear, honest guidance without pressure. Whether you are considering a direct cremation, a simplicity funeral, a chapel service, a burial, a green burial or a traditional funeral, we are here to explain the options and help you make the choice that feels right.

A simple funeral can still be personal, meaningful and cared for with dignity.

Shared as helpful consumer guidance for families considering direct cremation.

Can pets attend a funeral?

As a family business, we understand that pets are part of the family too. For many people, including a much-loved dog or companion animal in a funeral service can bring comfort and help make the farewell feel even more personal.

Our chapel at Christophers’ Family Funerals is pet-friendly by prior arrangement, and we are always happy to talk through what may be possible.

We can also help families check whether pets may attend services at local churches, crematoria, or other venues, as this depends on each location’s rules and circumstances.

Whether a pet attends the service, is mentioned in a tribute, included in photographs or remembered through a personal keepsake, there are many thoughtful ways to recognise that special bond.

Personal choices, arranged with care.

Ashburton Funeral Home Update

We are aware that some families may have noticed, or had concerns, that our Ashburton office is not currently open for regular walk-in appointments.

We would like to reassure families that Christophers’ Family Funerals is still operating as normal and continues to support Ashburton and the surrounding areas with the same high standard of care, compassion and personal service.

Families can still meet with us at our Ashburton premises by appointment, and our Chapel of Rest and mortuary facilities remain available as usual.

Our Newton Abbot office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, for funeral arrangements, advice and support.

As always, we remain available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
