Kickstarting Sandstone Activities theme for September, A Month of Memories, celebrating World Alzheimer's Month, starting this week with Memories Through Music.

We took inspiration for our Arts & Crafts from record album covers.

Residents said "this is very interesting", "it makes you think" as we looked at some actual album covers and discussed what singer/band our works of art reminded us of.

🌟 A huge congratulations to Bethany! 🌟

We’re incredibly proud to share that Bethany Crouchman, Care Practitioner at The Oaks Care Home, has been named Sandstone Care Group’s latest Sandstone Star! 💙

Bethany joined The Oaks in 2024 and has been recognised for the exceptional care and support she provides to our residents, always championing their choices, rights and wishes and making sure their voices are heard.

She also goes above and beyond to support residents and their families, treating everyone with kindness, compassion and respect. 🥰

Our Home Manager, Jen Roberts, said Bethany is a “strong advocate for the people she supports” and thoroughly deserves this recognition.

We couldn’t agree more! 👏✨

Well done, Bethany — we’re so lucky to have you as part of The Oaks family! ❤️

Cheryl is taking on a challenge for Dementia UK! 💙

This September, our very own Cheryl will be putting her running shoes on and taking part in two fantastic events to raise money for Dementia UK.

📍 Lake Vyrnwy 1/2 Marathon – 13th September
📍 Shrewsbury 1/2 Marathon – 27th September

Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support to families facing what can be an incredibly difficult and uncertain time. It’s a cause that means a lot to us here at Sandstone, where we see every day just how important compassionate, specialist dementia care can be.

For Cheryl, this is about more than just the miles. Working in care has given her a new perspective on the difference we can make in people’s lives:

💬 “Working in care has given me a deep sense of purpose and touches my heart, knowing the impact my actions and input can help to make someone else’s day as happy as time spent with them makes me through the creation and delivery of any one of our varied programme of activities whether that’s a group activity or one to one time”.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help Dementia UK continue to support families living with dementia.

During our social in the garden this afternoon we took inspiration ahead of this evening's Solar Eclipse.

Bitesize art and a word search. And we reminisced about our childhood summer holidays which included gathering firewood for the winter log pile, playing football & long walks to the local lakes.

Residents commented on the activities:
"you don't realise how relaxing it is", "nice mixing with other people", "nice out in the open doing things" and "a lovely way to spend time" 🙂
