💜 A proud day for Ronald Cogan & Sons

Today we welcomed the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) for our inspection, and we are delighted to share that we passed.

Our official inspection certificate will arrive within the next four weeks, and we will be incredibly proud to display it.

Being inspected is something we welcome. It gives families independent reassurance that the standards of care, dignity and professionalism we promise are being upheld throughout every part of what we do.

Above all, it reflects something that has always been at the heart of Ronald Cogan & Sons:

We care for every person entrusted to us as if they were one of our own family. 💜

Families place an enormous amount of trust in a funeral director, often at one of the most difficult times in their lives. We never take that trust — or the responsibility that comes with it — for granted.

We’re very proud of our team and of the standards we continue to uphold for the families and communities we serve.

As we're now well into August, we thought we'd share five gentle reminders to make the most of the weeks of summer still ahead. 🌿

1️⃣ Reach out to someone.
Give that person you've been meaning to call a ring. Send the message you've been thinking about. Sometimes the smallest conversations become the ones we treasure most.

2️⃣ Explore somewhere close to home.
Visit that local place you've always meant to see but never quite got around to. You don't have to travel far to discover somewhere special.

3️⃣ Write down a memory.
A favourite story, a family recipe, something someone always used to say, or simply a moment you never want to forget. The memories we record today become precious gifts for tomorrow.

4️⃣ Make time to listen.
Whether it's a child asking difficult questions, an older relative sharing stories, or a friend who simply needs to talk, listening is one of the greatest gifts we can give.

5️⃣ Slow down.
Take a walk with no destination. Sit in the sunshine with a cup of tea. Watch the birds in the garden. Enjoy a quiet moment simply because you can.

Summer has a way of slipping by before we realise it. We hope you find time for a few moments that bring you peace, create lasting memories, and remind you to appreciate the people around you.

There's something rather special about communities coming together to create something that benefits everyone. 💜

We're delighted to have sponsored this beautiful new community notice board on the Riverside Walkway, handcrafted by the talented volunteers at Ferriby Shed.

The notice board will provide a place for local groups, charities and organisations to share news, events and information, helping to keep our community connected.

A huge thank you to everyone at Ferriby Shed for their time, skill and craftsmanship. It has been a pleasure to support a project that will serve the people of North Ferriby for many years to come.

Good morning, and happy Monday. 💜🌿

There’s something a little different about August. The pace seems to soften, the days feel a little longer, and there’s an opportunity to pause, even if only for a few moments.

For this week's Mindfulness Monday, why not give yourself just ten minutes outdoors?

Leave your phone inside. No emails, no social media, no distractions. Simply sit quietly and notice the world around you. Listen to the birds, feel the warmth or the breeze on your face, watch the clouds drift by, or simply enjoy a moment of stillness.

Sometimes, the smallest pauses can make the biggest difference.

Life can feel overwhelming at times, but taking a few moments to breathe and be present can help us find a little calm amongst the busyness.

Whatever this week holds, be kind to yourself and to those around you.

Like so many people, we have watched the recent events in Hull unfold with profound sadness and disbelief. Our hearts go out to every family who has been affected during this incredibly difficult time, and our thoughts remain with them all. In moments like these, we are reminded just how important compassion, care, and community truly are.

We’re proud to be members of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), and we’re equally proud to display our current membership certificate alongside the UK Funeral Director Code, which guides everything we do.

Membership isn’t simply a certificate on the wall. It represents a commitment to the highest standards of care, professionalism, and ethics for every family who places their trust in us.

At Ronald Cogan & Sons, we care for every person entrusted to us as if they were one of our own family. We know what a privilege and responsibility that is, and it is a promise that underpins everything we do.

Over the past few years, we’ve welcomed inspections from Hull City Council and the Independent Funeral Standards Organisation, and we’re looking forward to our forthcoming NAFD inspection.

We genuinely welcome these inspections. They provide independent reassurance that the care we promise is the care we deliver, demonstrating the standards we uphold when looking after your loved one. We believe families should have complete confidence in the people they entrust with someone so precious.

Happy Yorkshire Day!

Today we celebrate the place we're proud to call home.

Yorkshire Day, marked every year on 1st August, is a chance to celebrate our county's rich history, remarkable heritage and the strong sense of community that makes Yorkshire so special. First celebrated in 1975, the date also commemorates the bravery of the Yorkshire regiments at the Battle of Minden in 1759 and honours the legacy of Yorkshireman William Wilberforce, whose work helped bring about the abolition of slavery across the British Empire.

As funeral directors, we have the privilege of serving families across our local community every day. We see first-hand the kindness, resilience and neighbourly spirit that Yorkshire is so well known for. We also see how important it is to remember those who came before us and the stories that have shaped our families and our communities.

Today is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything that makes Yorkshire unique—from its breathtaking landscapes and historic towns to its traditions, its people and its unmistakable sense of pride.

💜 A Small Heart, A Lasting Connection 💜

At Ronald Cogan & Sons, we understand that saying goodbye is never easy. Sometimes, it is the smallest gestures that can bring the greatest comfort.

In our Chapel of Rest, you will find little bags containing two felt hearts – one purple and one red.

Please feel free to help yourself.

One heart can be kept by you or another family member as a lasting reminder of the love you share. The other can be placed with your loved one, so that although you are apart, you remain forever connected.

These hearts are a small token of love and remembrance, offered with the hope that they bring comfort and help families feel close to those they hold dear.

Because love doesn't end with goodbye. It stays with us, always. 💜

One of the greatest privileges of being a funeral director is being entrusted with the care of someone's loved one.

Every person we look after has their own story, and every funeral we arrange is deeply personal. Whether a service is attended by a handful of family members or hundreds of friends, each one is equally important to us. Every life deserves to be remembered with dignity, care and respect.

Every now and then, however, we are entrusted with the care of someone whose life has touched not only their family and friends, but the wider community too.

We are currently honoured to be caring for John Turnbull, ahead of his funeral service next week.

Below are the details of John's funeral for those who knew him and wish to pay their respects. We know he meant so much to so many, and we are privileged to be supporting his family as they prepare to celebrate his life.

Thank you to John's family for placing their trust in us at such a difficult time. It is a responsibility we never take for granted. 💜
