Going out this evening to celebrate the end of the school, college or uni year?

Drink and drug spiking can happen at any time while you're out, so here's some top tips to keep yourself safe:

• Use an anti-spiking drinks cover or a bottle stopper, if they’re available.
• Keep your drink with you at all times.
• Don't accept open drinks from strangers.
• Watch your drinks being prepared.
• Look out for your friends.

If you think you've been spiked:

• Tell someone you trust immediately.
• Get medical help.
• Contact the police as soon as possible.

Summer often brings a feeling of freedom. The end of school, college or university and longer days can mean more opportunities to socialise, attend festivals and spend time outdoors.

But excitement, alcohol, drugs and peer pressure can sometimes lead people to take risks they wouldn't usually take. If you are planning on taking drugs this festival season, understanding the risks and making informed decisions can help reduce harm.

Here are some important festival harm reduction and safer drug use tips.

Whether you're heading to a house party, meeting friends in the park or spending the day at the beach, a little planning can help keep you safe.

Heat exhaustion and dehydration can happen quickly, particularly if you've been drinking alcohol, using drugs or spending long periods in the sun.

Most importantly, never feel pressured to drink, take drugs or do anything you're not comfortable with.

If a situation doesn't feel right, trust your instincts and leave.

Alcohol Awareness Week isn’t about telling people whether they should or shouldn’t drink. It’s not about judgement, labels or assumptions. Instead, it’s an opportunity for us all to pause and reflect on our relationship with alcohol.

Taking a moment to consider the role that alcohol plays in your life, and how it might be affecting you, doesn’t have to mean making big decisions or dramatic changes. Sometimes, it’s simply about checking in with yourself and taking small steps that are right for you.

When we think of hangovers, we usually think of the physical effects of alcohol like headaches and feeling rough. However, for many, it’s the racing thoughts, sinking feeling and replaying conversations the next day which can feel the hardest to deal with.

“Hangxiety” is common, but it can feel overwhelming. While there’s no guaranteed way to avoid it, there are some small steps we can take to help reduce the risk of regretting the night before.

This Alcohol Awareness Week, we’re taking a step back and considering the role that alcohol might be playing in our lives. For more information, support and harm reduction advice, visit: https://www.inspireservice.co.uk/discover/alcohol-support
