The question many of my clients are scrabbling with is ‘do I care for Mum’ in her later years? Especially when she did not care for me.
There are different answers to this and everyone’s experience and decision is different and all decisions are ok.
If you are in this situation or scrabbling with this yourself then please remember that the most important thing is for you to decide what is the best route for yourself.
There are some societal phrases that are around that can steer and not help your decision process.
Phrases such as “She’s your mother, she cared for you for all those years, it’s your job” – not true.
“Why wouldn’t you care for her, she’s your mother after all”- again huge amounts of pressure there.
It is not your obligation but it can be your decision.
