They’ll be either a bold Leo or a practical Virgo, depending on when they arrive.

The exact cause of pre-eclampsia isn’t known however it’s thought it occurs when there’s a problem with the placenta.

Most people only experience mild symptoms but if it isn’t treated it can lead to serious complications for both mum and baby so it’s important it is diagnosed and monitored.

According to the NHS, the earlier symptoms of pre-eclampsia are present the more severe the condition will be.

Other factors that can slightly increase the risk include:

- a family history of pre-eclampsia
- if you’re aged over 40
- it’s been more than 10 years since your last pregnancy
- if you are expecting multiple babies
- if your BMI is 35 or higher

If you have 2 or more of these together your chances are higher.

If you’re diagnosed with pre-eclampsia you’ll be referred to a specialist at hospital where they’ll do further tests to see how severe it is. Pre-eclampsia will only be cured by giving birth to your baby, so you’ll be monitored closely until it’s possible to deliver your baby. You’ll need to attend regular appointments so you can be monitored and in severe cases you may need to be admitted to hospital.

Breath-holding is when a baby or child stops breathing for up to 1 minute and may faint. It can happen when a child is frightened, upset, angry, or has a sudden shock or pain. It’s usually harmless but can be scary for parents, particularly when it happens for the first time.

Breath-holding episodes:

▪️usually last for less than 1 minute (if the child faints, they'll usually regain consciousness within 1 or 2 minutes)
▪️are not epileptic seizures

Your child is not doing it on purpose and cannot control what happens when they have a breath-holding episode.

❗️Call 999 if:
▪️faints and cannot be woken up
▪️is shaking or jerking because of a fit
▪️is blue or grey

These could be symptoms of breath-holding, but could also be related to other, more serious conditions. If a doctor has not previously told you it's breath-holding, it's important to get it checked immediately.

👨‍⚕️See a GP if your child has already been diagnosed with breath-holding and:

▪️has breath-holding episodes more often than before or the episodes seem worse
▪️is stiff or shakes for longer than a minute and takes a while to recover
▪️has breath-holding episodes that are affecting everyday life

The GP will try to find out if there's a more serious underlying condition. They may suggest an ECG to check your child's heart rhythm.

Today is World IVF Day!

The birth of Louise Brown in 1978 was the start of a revolution in fertility treatment and her birthday – 25th July – has been known as World IVF Day ever since.

It is estimated that since Louise Brown's birth over eight million babies have been born from IVF around the world.

The journey to parenthood isn’t easy or straightforward for everyone and today is a chance to celebrate all the beautiful babies conceived via IVF and the incredible advances that have been made in fertility treatment over recent years.

❤️We’d also like to send love and strength to anyone who is on that journey now.
