The work of Lorraine and Lee Lewis was featured on Anglia News last night for the ITV Pride in Britain Fundraiser of the Year Award.

Anglia filmed at NGH on August 12 when when reporter Sophie Wiggins visited Talbot Butler Ward and filmed Lorraine and Lee Lewis from the Lee Foundation at work bringing gift packs for cancer patients on the ward.

The Lewis Foundation is based in Northampton and was founded ten years ago by Lorraine and Lee after the latter's mother spent a period in hospital, on Talbot Butler Ward, for cancer treatment.

The charity now works in 17 hospitals across the Midlands, supporting people in 83 different wards and has raised more than £1.6m. It has been nominated in the Fundraiser of the Year Award Category for the Pride of Britain Awards.

It provides a wide range of care packages that patients can pick from, with each having been curated with the input of patients and hospital staff.

They have contributed hundreds of gift packs to NGH patients and regularly top up supplies so they don’t run out.

Well done Lorraine and Lee from everyone at NGH for your amazing efforts and we hope you win the award.

Accessing NHS services over the bank holiday weekend.

💊 For advice and treatment for minor illnesses go to your local pharmacy. Search ‘find a pharmacy NHS’ online to find your nearest one.

👩‍⚕️If you need to, you can contact your GP as normal. If they have different opening hours, or are closed, use NHS111.

📲 For urgent medical help, you can access NHS111 by calling, going online or using the NHS app.

🦷 If you think you need urgent dental treatment, contact your usual dentist. If you don’t have one, use NHS 111. If an urgent appointment is needed, you will be provided with details of your local out-of-hours dental service.

Congratulations to Linda who is the latest winner of Star Award.

Healthcare Assistant Linda was nominated by the family of a patient living with dementia. Her warmth, kindness and reassurance made a difficult and distressing time feel calmer for both the patient and their loved ones.

The family described the moment Linda approached with a smile, addressed the patient by name and looked kindly into his eyes, calling her “a real-life angel”.

The nomination summed it up beautifully: “I cannot really put into words our appreciation and gratitude. I truly think this lady should have a Star Award.”

Linda’s reaction to winning? Two simple words: “It’s smashing.”

Thank you, Linda, for showing the impact that compassion, dignity and kindness can have on patients and families when they need it most.

Today, we joined the Wellingborough District Hindu Association to honour the Hindu community’s proud contribution to the UK’s Armed Forces and our country from the First World War to those serving today. Hemant Nemade, UHN Medical Director, attended this special commemoration alongside MPs and other important delegates.
Our Nervecentre system can now record whether someone is part of the Armed Forces community. This helps our clinical teams better understand the needs of serving personnel, veterans and their families, so we can provide more inclusive and tailored care.

To everyone who has served and who continues to serve thank you for your courage, dedication and service.

A big thank you to Sara, Niven and Ailsa from the cancer charity Ailsa’s Aim after they delivered additional skin-care products to help patients during their recuperation from radiotherapy.

Ailsa’s Aim is a national charity, based in Olney, which supports people affected by cancer and families with babies in neonatal care.

It has donated high-quality MooGoo skincare products which can be used by radiotherapy patients who have had skin reactions to targeted radiation treatment used to treat cancer - and which can be used in addition to those which the hospital can prescribe.

The Chief Executive and Co-Founder of Ailsa's Aim, Sara Whatley, said the donation followed her husband, Dr Niven Whatley's, recent radiotherapy treatment at NGH for bowel cancer.

The products are widely recommended for people undergoing radiotherapy because they are gentle, fragrance-free, and suitable for sensitive skin, and in some areas are even available on prescription.

Initially, Ailsa's Aim has funded around 100 products to trial the scheme which were presented to the hospital on August 20 and the pilot will enable the charity to understand demand, gather feedback, and explore whether donations could become a longer-term initiative for patients receiving treatment at NGH.
