At Birches Crematorium & Remembrance Park yesterday, I looked after a service for a lady who was 96 years old. Her sister travelled over from Yorkshire to be here and she sent me a message by text today. Here it is:

Yesterday was excellent and Pat would have approved. Dodgson & Bell Funerals were so professional and so understanding. The coffin and flowers were perfect as was the afternoon refreshment; everybody was so so sociable but the Celebrant was the star - you were exceptional David and so many agreed with me. Thank you so much. Keep safe and well and enjoy life. Sheila

Bless you Sheila. There was most certainly an outpouring of warmth, affection and love in the room towards Pat as I took the service. It was an absolute privilege to help you and all the folks present to say a Fond Farewell to Pat. ❤️

Here's a lovely message received on my voicemail today. "Hi David, ...thank you for your call yesterday and .... and huge thanks [for taking the service] because it absolutely was a wonderful service and everyone appreciated it. The right tone, the right content and it was, it was lovely. Thank you again. Bye."
Often folks know of me, but on this occasion, the family knew of me through mine! My daughter's school and where my wife works. 😊
So, "THANK YOU" D for entrusting your lovely husband's service to me. I'm so pleased that you are happy with how everything went and I also thank you and all the family for your contribution to everything that happened from writing amazing tributes, to very special choices of music.

It is always a joy when folks leave reviews or mentions on my page. Today, I received a mention from the Walsh family that I helped last week. My sincere thanks to Jane for taking time to write and post. ❤️
I also received WhatsApp messages from a brother and sister who live over in Congleton. My thanks to them too. They’ve given me permission to share here:

Dear David,
We felt we would very much like to drop you a note to give our thanks for the wonderful job you did yesterday in orchestrating the celebration for our mum and for guiding us through the process. Your approach and attitude towards the event were perfect for our family, your words were thoughtfully considered and delivered in such a way that lightened the atmosphere which is exactly what we wanted. I feel you should know that you have helped us on this journey.

A day or two following a service, I like to call the family I've helped to check how they are and whether they have any feedback. Sometimes I'm beaten to it, which is a delight, and this is one I received on Friday. My sincere thanks to all the family. ❤️

I had one "complaint" from a family recently. YUP... I didn't arrive at the house on my motorbike! 😊. But since taking the funeral for the husband/dad, I received a very kind text message that I've been given permission to share. It's about a gentleman who worked on some of the television programmes you and I have probably watched over the years including Dr Who and Coronation Street, but who is remembered most of all for being a wonderful husband and a great dad.
"My mum and I would like to thank you for celebrating [dad's] life so well.
Such a lovely man you are, and you presented everything in such a lovely and respectful way.
Thanks so much... Charlie and Jean"

Hi David,
We just wanted to say thank you so much for mum's service yesterday. Your delivery on the day was excellent and your support and guidance through a difficult time was so supportive. We will always be grateful for you showing us the beach backdrop; taking mum to the beach one last time will be a lasting memory for many of us.
Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I hope it is a long time before we need your services again. But if there is a top trumps list of celebrants, you are our first choice.
Ride safe on the bike and thank you for making a tough time just that little bit easier.

Fabulous words from a family I've helped out a few times. Vale Royal Crematorium is now a super-venue with the whole of the front wall acting as a screen. The beach theme is just one of many that can be used but, as the family say, was the most fitting of all.

My own mother died on this day four years ago. I recall the emotions I experienced then and how each special anniversary can be tinged with sadness when my late mum or dad come to mind. But mum was also so full of life, mischief and fun, and was a kind-hearted woman too, so the sadness is mingled with happiness and special memories.

It seems that all of this helps me when I am asked to take a service for someone else. It isn't my job; but more my vocation and I feel humbled, blessed and privileged to do what I do.

Thank you to all those who have entrusted a funeral service to me, and thank you to those who helped me and my family when we faced a similar need. ♥️

It was my pleasure to help a family yesterday that live the other side of town to me. Today I saw that there was a comment left by the family on a post of mine from 10th March. I've copied it and brought it forward.

"You did a great job yesterday David, for my beloved late wife Judy Cannon. Warm, dignified and highly professional. Thanks from all the Dennans and Cannons."

I am always blown away by the lovely feedback I receive and sincerely thank Michael for writing such a kind 'thank you.' ♥️

Hi David, I wanted to thank you personally and on behalf of all the family for doing an amazing job today, you really nailed it for Bill and us and made all the difference. All the very best, Matthew, Gillian, Joan & the family.

Very grateful for these kind words from a lovely family I helped this week. The service took place at Altrincham Crematorium where, although there was a bit of a delay caused by the previous service being delayed, we were not put under any pressure at all…Many thanks to the wonderful staff there and to Bill’s family for the lovely message they sent me ❤️.

Some news that has nothing to do with funerals, but something I'm delighted to have accomplished and be able to share.

On Monday, I completed all the requirements to become a volunteer Blood Biker with Shropshire • Staffordshire • Cheshire Blood Bikes . I look forward to being of real use to the charity.

I was out around the Cheshire, Wirral, Liverpool area being taken to some of the places I will likely be collecting from and delivering to. I saw where a couple of the bikes are kept, how to check them over and prepare for a shift, and one of the places for a coffee!! My thanks to all the team and especially those involved in helping me understand what’s what!
