Then head out into the woodland with a crayon and see if your little explorers can find all of the special metal rubbing plaques hidden along the trail. Have you spotted a Hummingbird Hawk Moth yet?

Our woodland has been home to two wonderful residents this year who have migrated all the way from Europe or North Africa. You'll often spot them hovering effortlessly in front of flowers, using their long tongue to drink nectar without landing.

We have a lot of Verbena bonariensis around the Woodhall this time of year, and when the weather begins to cool in the early evening, these wonderful day moths come out to show us their beauty.

If you have these plants in your garden or around the woodland, keep your eyes peeled on warm, sunny days. They can be surprisingly approachable and are a real treat to watch as they dart from flower to flower.

Don't forget that the Big Butterfly Count 2026 is still running until 9th August! 🦋

Take a break from your busy lifestyle, sit down in nature for just 15 minutes, and enjoy observing the different species of butterflies and day-flying moths around you.

Once you've finished, submit your count directly through the Big Butterfly Count website and help support British wildlife and butterfly conservation.

Every sighting counts and contributes to a better understanding of the challenges our butterflies and moths are facing.

Our students recently enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Brackenhurst Campus at NTU! They learnt about a range of courses, including equestrian studies, animal care, countryside management, and agriculture.
