Mental Health Awareness Week & olfactory rituals. Sometimes life is challenging. Firstly though, let’s manage some expectations- As a clinical aromatherapist, I’m always stressing that aromatherapy should never be used as a replacement for seeking the advice of a healthcare professional. It is a complementary therapy (can be used alongside other therapies), and as such, it can be very helpful in supporting our mood.
Daily Rituals that we create as an individual (to suit our own lifestyle) can help to regulate our nervous system, by providing regular, predictable feedback. This helps us to feel calm. A pulse point roll on or personal inhaler that can be taken out and about to work, a floral water spray, and an aromatherapy bath as part of a ‘wind down’ evening routine are some of the rituals that my clients have created for themselves. My personal favourite is using my aromatherapy hand cream (with my favourite signature blend) in the evenings when I’m reading before bed, helps to calm and relax me before sleep. We’re all individuals, and there are lots of different aromatherapy options available to choose from. Interested in learning more about what could work for you? Then let’s chat. 🌿🌸
In the meantime, please do have the courage to reach out and talk to someone if you are struggling with your mental health. No one should suffer in silence alone
