🐾 Cuteness overload! 🐾
These three absolutely smashed their latest physiotherapy session! 🥰

Bruno (front left) was the first of the trio I started treating back in December, following a referral from Rackheath Vets for a lumbosacral muscle spasm.

The three of them are rescue dogs, and Bruno is the most confident although he is still a very nervous boy! We therefore moved his physiotherapy sessions to home visits, allowing him to feel much more comfortable in his own environment.

And that’s where I met Kali and Noah! 👀

Initially, both were very wary of the strange lady who kept turning up with squeezy cheese and suspicious-looking wobble cushions! 😂

Kali (right) was the first to realise that perhaps the treats were worth the risk of trusting me. 🧀😂

Noah (back) has been the most recent to find his confidence. When I first started visiting, he would spend the entire session hiding, so watching him gradually build his confidence and now feel brave enough to join in has been incredible. 💚

Kali and Noah currently have general maintenance physiotherapy to help keep them as mobile, comfortable and active as possible.

There is still one more member of the pack to win over… George! 🐾
He may take a little more time, and that’s absolutely okay. Every animal is different, and I will always take things at their own pace, working alongside their owner to find an approach that works for them and is in their best interests.

Building trust is just as important as the treatment itself. 💚

And because I know how important all of our furry family members are, I also offer 15% off additional animals from the same household. 🐾💚

The handsome Draco at Rackheath Vets for his physiotherapy session 🐾

Draco comes to see me every 3 weeks to help manage his hip dysplasia. At just 8 months old, he is full of life and definitely keeps us on our toes, there is never a dull moment when he’s in the building! 😛🤗

We keep his sessions fun and engaging with plenty of treats and toys, although he does have the occasional lovely quiet moment (swipe for proof🥰)… it just doesn’t tend to last very long! 🤭💚

Maverick enjoying his veterinary physiotherapy session in the sunshine, with plenty of cuddles from his owner too! ☀️🐴❤️

Maverick recently had his initial assessment, which includes a thorough static and dynamic evaluation, palpation, range of motion testing, and much more. This helps to identify areas of weakness, restriction, and compensation that may be affecting how he moves.

Our horses are incredibly good at adapting their posture and gait to avoid discomfort. While these compensations can help in the short term, they often place additional strain on other areas of the body and may lead to further issues if left unaddressed.

This is why regular physiotherapy is such an important part of your horse’s healthcare team. By identifying and addressing these changes early, we can help keep our horses comfortable, moving efficiently, and performing at their best.

Maverick has now had his treatment session and has been sent away with some homework to target his weaker areas. I’m looking forward to seeing how he progresses over the coming weeks! 💚

I think both Ralfie and I enjoyed the cuddles between reps and while waiting for the water to fill and drain more than the actual exercise! 😂🐾💚

The underwater treadmill (UWTM) is an incredible rehabilitation tool, whether it’s being used following injury or surgery, as part of conservative management, or simply to help maintain strength and mobility.

Many of its benefits come from the amazing properties of water. The resistance of the water increases muscular effort, helping to build strength, while also encouraging a greater range of motion through the joints. This makes it a fantastic, low-impact form of exercise, particularly for our older dogs.

The UWTM also allows us to work on gait retraining in a controlled environment. Walking in a continuous straight line is ideal for many conditions where tight turns and circles should be limited. Being in the treadmill with the patient also allows us to encourage a more balanced and symmetrical movement pattern, which we hope will then transfer to their movement on land.

One of the greatest benefits is buoyancy. The water supports the body’s weight, reducing the load and concussive forces through painful or compromised joints while still allowing normal movement. This means patients can exercise comfortably while improving mobility and function.

Finally, hydrostatic pressure—the gentle pressure of the water against the body—helps to improve circulation and reduce swelling. Combined with our lovely warm water (around 31°C), it creates a highly therapeutic environment for recovery and conditioning.

The underwater treadmill is an extraordinary tool and can be beneficial for so many patients. And if you’re lucky, you might get a few cuddles from your therapist along the way too! 🐶💦

I think it’s safe to say Moose enjoyed his first session at Rackheath Vets this week... just look at that face! 😂🐾

Moose came in for his initial assessment on Wednesday, where I identified a variety of compensatory movement and postural patterns that he has developed to avoid discomfort.

This is very similar to us humans sitting with rounded shoulders or an arched posture whilst working at a desk. It might not be the most efficient position, but it’s often the one that feels the most comfortable at the time.

The difference is that a human physiotherapist can explain why improving posture and engaging certain muscles is important. With our animal patients, we need to encourage these changes through tailored exercises, environmental modifications, and, most importantly, the support of their owners.

The good news is that Moose doesn’t have any major concerns…he simply needs some guidance to help him move more efficiently and use his body more effectively. At just 2 years old, he’s at the perfect age to address these compensations and help prevent them from developing into issues that could affect his comfort and mobility later in life.

This is exactly why veterinary physiotherapy shouldn’t be reserved only for injured or compromised animals. Many pets develop subtle compensatory patterns that can go completely unnoticed by even the most attentive owners. By identifying and addressing these changes early, we can help prevent them from progressing into more significant issues, keeping our animals comfortable, mobile, and happy for longer.
I’m looking forward to seeing Moose’s progress over the coming weeks! 💚🐾
