World Breastfeeding Week 2026 🩷
Second time around I have been lucky enough to still be breastfeeding Louie but oh my god it’s been a labour of love feeding this lad who’s certainly got an appetite!
We’re down to one breastfeed in the morning now & I love it because it’s the only 4 minutes of the day he sits still but even having done it before & now being trained in Infant Feeding it’s still been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, mentally and physically.
A completely different baby & a completely different experience. I had to wake Harrie up for feeds when she was a newborn - I’ve obviously never had to wake Louie for a feed in his life 🤣. Harrie really struggled to latch to begin with - Louie came out and latched straight away in recovery after my C section. Harrie happily took a bottle throughout our feeding journey but refused formula. Louie initially took a bottle & formula but then went through bottle refusal, potential allergies, tongue tie, high palette, engorgement, oversupply, reflux symptoms, infant dyschezia, constipation - the list went on and on but finally at a year old things seem to have settled but I’ve sent myself crazy the last year trying to figure everything out.
No 2 babies are the same and 2 feeding journeys will be.
World breastfeeding week’s intentions aren’t to trigger those that chose not to breastfeed or weren’t able to because of a lack of support.
It’s about raising awareness.
It’s about fighting for change.
It’s about continuing to support as many mums as possible in a society that needs to do better.
To those who currently are, to those who have stopped, to those who had to stop before they were ready, to those who struggled, to those that couldn’t, to those that combi fed, to those that weren’t supported to breastfeed. 🩷
