Rach is a hairdresser, always on her feet, and has suffered with sciatica and lower back problems for years, she’s tried stretches from a physiotherapist, acupuncture, steroid injections and a whole heap of other treatments in that time. Now don’t get me wrong, they all have their place, I’m just here to tell you what treatment we went through today, and got the relief and results she’s been needing for a long time.
After a horrendous day and night in pain, Rachel got in touch and received treatment last week, and with fascia scraping, deep tissue massage, and myofascial cupping, we found a lot of trigger points across her sciatic nerve and also along her IT band.
The colour of the cupping matters!! I could see from how quickly the cups drew blood to the surface just how much stagnation was in some of the areas she was suffering the most, so we got to work relieving as much tension as we could, including searching the surrounding areas for smaller trigger points where her body has been compensating. I recommended a second session so we could finish what we started, and today got to work with a plan of action - I saw much better blood flow this time and found far fewer trigger points which is a great result. Using scraping, cupping, and integrated deep tissue work we took care of those last spots of tension, and I gave Rach a series of stretches and movements to do to keep the sciatic nerve happy and the IT band on her side.
