June Wrathall, back in the day was well known in her local area for her spectacular flower arrangements, often winning competitions as a member of the Horticultural Society in Long Eaton.
She was in her element yesterday after I’d collected another huge donation of beautiful flowers from in Sandiacre. Thank you Simply Flowers!
June remained focused whilst carefully creating a stunning display of flowers for all our residents to enjoy. I watched in wonder as she selected each one with purpose; and held it out amidst the flowers she had already placed in the vase.
I asked June to tell me the names of some of the flowers… I was blown away! From a lady who, now would usually answer with something like “I can’t be sure” - June reeled off (most of) the names without hesitation. Amazing!
I learnt a lot from June yesterday ❤️

Meet Pat Gwyther, our resident of the day.
Pat used to be a Bus Driver for Trent Barton. After renewing her bus pass online, it arrived in the post shortly after. Pat was over joyed when I handed it to her, even more so when I asked if she wanted to try it out!
Look at that smile!
Pat and I caught the number 15 from outside Longmoor, we took a ride through Long Eaton where Pat excitedly pointed out all the places she was familiar with and told me of how things have changed.
We got off close to where she used to live and walked by her old house.
“I planted that Yucca, it was only tiny” Pat told me. I took a picture..
look how huge it has grown!

Residents from Longmoor Lodge enjoying a day out to Matlock Bath. Barry Saintclair shared fascinating stories from his time in the forces as we visited the war memorial. He is pictured top right with staff member Jo Pavier and fellow resident, Veronica Gibbons.
Top right is Maureen Minchin having fun on the 2p machines. Maureen had a fantastic time from start to finish.
And at the bottom, Jo is with Pat Gwyther and Melvin Kelly, taking in the beautiful scenery as we strolled by the river Derwent.
Melvin liked seeing the different boats and the huge fish in the pond.
Pat also loved looking at the fish and discovering a part of Matlock she never knew about.
We all had Matlock’s famous fish and chips for lunch… delicious!
We are already planning our next trip to ensure every single resident gets to go on a day out.

Barbara Clarke had called me over, only a few days ago, pointing to the tv, she asked “can you take me there?”. It was nowhere in particular, a screensaver type image of a beautiful lake with green surroundings on a sunny day. I smiled and told Barbara “I’ll see what I can do”.
Fast forward
Resident of the day; we took Barbara and her husband, Frank Clarke for a stroll down by the canal. The sun was shining and the birds were singing!
Along the way we stopped to admire the horses and their foals. We saw ducks, ducklings, a swan, some fish and lots of dragonflies. We chatted to a few locals and learnt about different plants.
Barbara picked a couple of blackberries. Her and Frank both had a fantastic time.
This was better than the lake in the picture!
Barbara : “it’s amazing what’s on your doorstep!”
