⚡ Physio Fact #7 – What Is Sciatica?
Many people think sciatica is a condition on its own, but it is actually a collection of symptoms caused by irritation or compression of the nerve roots that form the sciatic nerve.
The most common symptoms include:
✔️ Pain that radiates from the lower back through the buttock and down the leg.
✔️ Tingling or numbness.
✔️ Muscle weakness.
✔️ Pain that often worsens when sitting for long periods, coughing, or sneezing.
💙 The good news? Most people improve with the right treatment. Early assessment, staying active where possible, and a tailored physiotherapy programme can help reduce pain and restore normal function.
Remember: not every episode of sciatica requires surgery. A thorough assessment is the key to finding the right treatment.
