With children back at school, parents are being encouraged to make sure their child’s plan, inhaler technique, and medication are up-to-date if needed ahead of the annual 'September spike' in asthma episodes.

The number of children attending A&E with asthma increased by 229% in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire between August and September 2025 , reflecting a significant increase in attacks and worsening symptoms often seen at the start of the new school term.

This reminder comes as NHS organisations support the annual ‘Ask About Asthma’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness about improving children and young people’s respiratory care.

During the month of August, we received 6,689 calls — that’s an average of 334 calls every weekday!

We’re pleased to share that 521 patients used our callback feature, with an impressive 98% of callbacks completed successfully. 🙌

If your query is non-urgent and straightforward, you may not need to call us at all!

For example, if you have a question about:

* 📝 A sick note
* 💊 Your medication
* 📄 Other simple administrative or clinical queries

You can submit an online written query through our website and bypass the phone line altogether whilst still getting a response within 24hrs.

Learn how to protect your eyes whilst watching the partial solar eclipse!

We probably shouldn’t have to say this, but don’t look directly at the sun. Looking directly at the sun without the right protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight – so you need to take care. Remember, your normal sunglasses may look great, but they won't cut it.
