Back today after a lovely break. :)

I’ve been taking some much-needed family time, experiencing lots of culture, sunshine and new experiences in Morocco. 🐪

My out-of-office was on, email notifications were turned off, and I made a conscious decision to have some proper headspace.

But what does that actually mean?

It got me thinking about how difficult it can be to switch off when we’re so used to being “on it” all the time.

Checking. Replying. Planning. Doing. Thinking about what needs to happen next.

We talk a lot about boundaries, and I really believe they are important. But having boundaries doesn’t mean we suddenly become brilliant at switching off.

I really get this. And believe me, I’m human too.

I’m a nervous flyer. I like my home comforts. I hate airports. I still get the urge to check my phone. And those things don’t magically disappear because of what I do for a job, or because I’m on holiday.

I’ve learnt that, as hard as I try, I don’t have a ‘switch off’ button.

For me, this break was about turning things down a little. Less rushing, less feeling like I needed to be “on it”, and more space for family time, new experiences, conversations, laughter and simply being present.

I’m not sure I’ll ever be someone who completely switches off, and that’s OK.

Sometimes it’s just about giving ourselves enough space to let the other parts in. :)

For me, these are the boundaries that feel realistic, and kinder.

Not having a perfect off switch. Just knowing when it’s time to pause. 🤍

I've been wanting to share some thoughts over the last few weeks while the weather has been warmer.

Our news feeds, schools and organisations are using words like severe, amber, and warning. Even those words alone can create a sense of heightened alertness. Our nervous systems are already taking in so much information, and hearing language that signals danger can add another layer to that.

When we're too hot, our bodies have to work harder to regulate our temperature. You might notice an increased heart rate, feeling restless, dizzy, irritable or more tired. Heat can naturally bring about these sensations, and when our brains are already on high alert, it's easy to interpret them as something more.

On top of that, some of the things that usually help us cope, such as going for a run, exercising or getting outside, might not feel possible. Even dehydration can leave us feeling more unsettled.

If you're feeling more dysregulated than usual right now, it makes sense.

Yes, sunshine can lift our mood, brighten our days and be good for us in so many ways. But if things don't feel quite right, it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong or that you're "going backwards."

It might just mean... it's really hot.

This might be a time to be especially gentle with yourself. It might help to stay hydrated, find a cool space if you can, rest, or come back to whatever helps your nervous system feel a little steadier.

Sometimes the things we think of as "the basics" aren't basic at all. They're exactly what we need.

Take what you need. 🤍

Just a reminder:If you don't feel ''positive'' or have it all figured out, you still deserve kindness ❤️ ✔️

How much energy do you spend trying not to listen to your pain?

I wonder what it would be like if you stopped pushing it away for a minute?

Not to dwell on it or let it take over.

Just to hear what it might have to say.

Maybe it’s telling you you’re tired

Maybe it wants to something to change

Maybe it just wants to be acknowledged.

I wonder what it would say?

A kind reminder that a tough day isn't a step backwards ❤️
