⚠️ Trigger Warning ⚠️
We visited Newark last weekend to see the Knife Angel.
It seems appropriate to share this post during Knife Crime Awareness Week.
An amazing sculpture - and the talk shared by visitors when we were there was truly moving.
The Knife Angel was created by Alfie Bradley and the British Ironwork Centre, taking over 4 years, built from 100,000 blades removed from communities across the UK. It involved all 43 police constabularies.
It's purpose is to evoke emotion and raise better awareness of knife crime and to help promote educational change.
Every city it visits must agree to set up a permanent educational, anti-violence program.
Some of the blades are engraved with messages from families who have been devastated by knife crime and violence.
The Knife Angel is now a national monument against violence and aggression.
We, as Funeral Directors, often see the horrific results inflicted by knife crime and the sad legacy it leaves behind.
If just one extra blade is given up by someone who sees the Knife Angel, it will be worth it.
