🚭Stopping smoking is one of the best things you will ever do for your health.
Check out these tips to help you quit. It’s never too late.🚭
What happens when you quit?

The sooner you quit, the sooner you'll notice changes to your body and health. Look at what happens when you quit for good.

➡After 20 minutes
Check your pulse rate, it will already be starting to return to normal.

➡After 8 hours
Your oxygen levels are recovering, and the harmful carbon monoxide level in your blood will have reduced by half.

➡After 48 hours
Your carbon monoxide levels have dropped to that of a non-smoker. Your lungs are clearing out mucus and your senses of taste and smell are improving.

➡After 72 hours
If you notice that breathing feels easier, it's because your bronchial tubes have started to relax. Also your energy will be increasing.

➡After 2 to 12 weeks
Blood will be pumping through to your heart and muscles much better because your circulation will have improved.

➡After 3 to 9 months
Any coughs, wheezing or breathing problems will be improving as your lung function increases by up to 10%.

➡After 1 year
Great news! Your risk of heart attack will have halved compared with a smoker's.

➡After 10 years
More great news! Your risk of death from lung cancer will have halved compared with a smoker's.

💙 Helping Us Help You: Tips for Taking Clear Medical Photos for Your Doctor
Sending a clear photo can really help your healthcare team assess symptoms more quickly and accurately — especially for skin rashes, wounds, and toenail concerns.

Here are some simple tips to improve your medical photos 👇

✅ Use good lighting or flash
Natural daylight works best. Avoid dark rooms or coloured lighting.

✅ Hold the phone above the area
Keep your foot flat on the floor and hold the phone directly above the toe for a clear view.

✅ Make sure the photo is in focus
Tap the screen to focus before taking the picture. Take a few shots and choose the clearest one.

✅ Take photos from different angles
Capture both close‑up and wider views to show detail and location.

🔒 Your photos are treated confidentially and help our team assess and triage your symptoms faster.

Thank you for helping us provide quicker, safer care 💙

📅 Don’t Miss Your Appointment – Help Us Help You
At The Alice Medical Centre, we understand that life can be busy and things don’t always go to plan. But missing appointments without letting us know has a real impact — not just on our team, but on other patients in our community.
📊 Did you know?

Around 8 million NHS appointments are missed every year in England. [england.nhs.uk]
This costs the NHS an estimated £1.2 billion annually — money that could be used to provide more care and reduce waiting times. [england.nhs.uk]
In GP practices alone, missed appointments cost over £200 million a year, with millions of valuable appointment slots going to waste. [agilio-pro...ltis.cloud]

Every missed appointment is time that could have been given to someone else who needs care.
💡 We understand that sometimes you can’t attend – whether it’s due to work, childcare, or illness. But if you can’t make it:
✅ Please cancel or rearrange your appointment as soon as possible
✅ This allows us to offer the slot to another patient
✅ It helps reduce waiting times for everyone
💙 By working together, we can make the best use of NHS services and ensure care is available for those who need it most.
Thank you for your support.

🌿 A message from The Alice Medical Centre 🌿

We kindly ask patients to only drop off urine or stool samples if a doctor or nurse has specifically requested them.

Recently, we’ve been receiving unrequested samples with no clinical information attached. This creates confusion, delays processing, and takes valuable time away from our nursing team who are working hard to support patient care.

By bringing samples only when asked, you help us work safely, efficiently, and ensure every patient gets the right care at the right time.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation 💚

Our May Statistics

‼️OVER 39 hours wasted ‼️

We unfortunately continue to see a high number of Did Not Attend (DNA) appointments each month. These missed appointments mean other patients wait longer and valuable clinical time is lost.

Thank you for your support

To cancel your appointment:
➡Use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
➡Using the GP online system – SystmOnline

📢 Respecting Our Staff at The Alice Medical Centre
At The Alice Medical Centre, we are proud to care for our community and support our patients every day. We understand that when you contact us, it is often because you are worried, unwell, or frustrated — and we recognise that emotions can sometimes run high.

➡However, we would like to remind all patients and visitors that we operate a zero tolerance policy towards abuse of our staff.

➡Our reception team, clinicians, and wider staff work incredibly hard to provide safe, timely, and compassionate care. They are here to help you — and deserve to be treated with respect at all times.

🚫 We will not tolerate:
-Verbal abuse or shouting
-Threatening behaviour
-Harassment or intimidation

✅ We ask that you:
-Speak calmly and respectfully
-Show patience and understanding
-Work with our team so we can help you as best as we can

While we appreciate that frustrations can arise — particularly during busy periods or when services are under pressure — abusive behaviour is never acceptable and may result in action being taken, including removal from the practice list.

💙 We are here to care for you. Please help us make our centre a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
