YOGA IN BED! This is my go to yoga shape after a tricky day. I find it great for relieving tension in my neck, shoulders and back and has been really soothing during a migrainey week! You don’t need anything but pillows behind your back and a cushion between your knees can make it feel even more comfy and relaxed. Arms out by sides like a capital T works but you can pop them anywhere comfy. I like to add in a neck twist by looking the other way from my knees but that is completely up to you. It can be nice to switch sides after a while.

Delighted to be teaching yoga at Maggies Nottingham today. Such a beautiful, calming and loving place and staff. Today we’ll all starting seated with blocks, blankets, bricks and straps to support us in different yoga shapes if we’d like. Maybe some of us will stand if it serves is.
Plus some lovely breathing and mindfulness.
Inspired by the trees outside at the moment… can feel a tree pose sneaking into the flow…..

Yoga can be a lovely flow in a beautifully curated space. Or it can be time you take for yourself to soothe and relax, using the space you have even if it is a bit messy! Legs up the wall can be a lovely soothing shape. I find it nice if you have tired legs, perhaps from a lot of walking. How you get there doesn’t have to be elegant, generally sit sideways with your hips against the wall or whatever you are going to rest your legs on then turn and raise your legs. A cushion or pillow under the hips or lower back can feel great. Alternatives could be lying on sofa with bent knees and calves and feet resting on arm or a pile of cushions, or on the floor with calves and feet on a chair or sofa or on one chair with another in front of you. All good!

I love reading books about yoga to teach and inspire me. Here are some of my favourites that focus on making asana (yoga poses or shapes) work for any and every body. What are your favourites?
1. Accessible Yoga by Jivana Heyman Full of wisdom including on finding the essence of the pose you want to adapt.
2. Yoga for Everyone by Dianne Bondy
Fab photos showing different kinds of bodies without an ableist slant. Kids Inteech love looking at these and finding a shape that matches them.
3. Yoga Where you Are Dianne Bondy and Kat Heagberg
Lovely photos and really detailed information on adapting poses.
