What incredible generosity. Thank you to all who are supporting the 30 for 30 campaign.

A huge thank you to Nisa Local on Arbury Road, Nuneaton, who kindly nominated George Eliot Hospital Charity to receive funding through MADL (Making A Difference Locally).

The team at the store were delighted to support our 30 for 30 campaign, helping us get one step closer to replacing specialist reclining chairs for patients receiving chemotherapy and haematology treatment in the Dorothea Unit at George Eliot Hospital.

Thank you to everyone at Nisa Local and to their customers for helping make a real difference to patient care. 💙

💖🎀 Line the streets and show your support for Breast Friends on Tour 2026! 🎀💖

Following the incredible success of last year's event, which raised an amazing £5,000 for the Breast Care Unit at George Eliot Hospital, the wonderful ladies of Nuneaton Acorns WI are back and hoping to raise even more in 2026!

On the evening of Friday 7th August, women will be taking to the streets in their creatively decorated bras and T-shirts to raise funds, promote wellbeing, and support local breast care services.

📍 Route: The Acorn Pub, → The Crow's Nest → Attleborough Arms → Chestnut Club → The Acorn Pub

⏰ 6pm – 11pm

We'd love the local community to come along, cheer the walkers on, wave, clap, and help create a fantastic atmosphere around the route. Your encouragement will mean so much to everyone taking part and raising funds for a cause close to many hearts.

“Having the type of cancer that could have, and could still, take my voice away, I feel passionate about using it and doing everything I can. Not just to raise awareness but to ensure others feel supported, seen and heard.”

After noticing an ulcer on her tongue that was irritated by chocolate, or anything tomato based, Amelia went to the doctors to get checked out. Shortly after a biopsy, she was told the news it was tongue cancer.

When it came to telling her youngest daughter, she couldn’t find the words.

“I reassured her that the doctors were going to remove the cancer and do surgery to take it all away. When I then ended up needing radiotherapy, that was really hard on her but she was there cheering me on. When I rang that bell, it signalled the end of a tough journey and that was meant to be it. We didn’t expect the cancer to come back only months later, again and again.

“I feel really passionate about doing what I can to be a voice for other people. Especially as I have a cancer that has greatly impacted my mouth and speech.

“I had this little device to use, like weightlifting for your tongue to help strengthen the muscles. I’ve worked really hard to increase my strength each week and get my speech to this level.

“I’m quite a talker and really stubborn and determined, so almost the next day after surgery, I was trying to talk. Even at that point I refused to remain silent.

“I’ve been openly sharing my journey on social media with video updates from the very beginning of diagnosis. When I look back on my updates after I’d just had half my tongue removed, even though it was really slurred and my mouth couldn’t move much, you could understand me.

“I’m glad that I have been capturing my journey as being able to look back helps to remind me of how far I’ve come.”

Amelia found our Online Community a helpful place to go to hear from others who were going through the same experience and how they were coping with the side effects of treatment.
