Forest Bathing seems to provoke some interesting images in people's minds (which I really enjoy hearing).

I am a Sylvotherapist (Forest Therapist) And guide Forest Bathing sessions in a Local Woodland Trust Wild Space 🌳
Basically I guide people in healing and wellness through immersive, mindful interactions with nature.

I have many reasons why I do this, one being that I just want to prance around like a woodland fairy. But seriously, forest bathing has some incredible science backed benefits, from cancer healing, cortisol (stress hormone) lowering, to unblocking a bunged up nose. Forest therapy is common place in the health care world in Japan and we are seeing a shift here too with the green NHS initiative.

But there are still some funny misconceptions, here are some of the best questions I've been asked.

🌳 Do you need to wear a bathing costume?
Nope, not that sort of bathing. We bathe the senses with the natural world.
🌳 Do I have to hug a tree?
Only if you want to. Most people do want to, they have just been waiting for the invitation to be weird 😂🌳💚
🌳 Is it for Hippies ?
Its for everyone dude ☮️
🌳 Will there be bugs ?
Yes, its in the woods, but bugs aren't really interested in forests bathing so unlikely to attend. All jokes aside, rarely have had a bug issue but wearing some natural bug repellant in summer should ease the worry. Also many people have had beautiful interactions while witnessing butterflies, grass hoppers, damsel flies while forest bathing.

Things people have said post forest bathing.

' I slept so well'.

'That was the most surreal experience'.

We would love to see you under the trees for the next forest bathing session on summer Solstice ☀️

Is there something calling you from the hustle back to nature?

Maybe it's the tree you find to eat your lunch under on your lunch break. Or the shadey canopy for your picnic blanket on a hot day. Maybe the relaxing sound of a stream under a bridge you walk over, or the black bird that sings on your chimney in the evening.

Here are some tips to deepen that connection with your own nature and the natural world around you, so you don't get caught in the 'I love nature' as a seperate thing trap.

Which of these do you already do ? Which one are you going to try out ?

Check out our nature connection offerings and keep an eye out for a new and free return to nature connection resource coming soon.

After a House filled with the Flu last week, we needed natures healing powers. Practising what I teach in Sylvotherapy, we headed for the Pines.

Conifers are heavy producers of alpha-pinene and beta-pinene, monoterpenes known to act as natural bronchodilators and anti-inflammatories.

Inhaling these specific phytoncides doesn't just clear out lingering respiratory congestion; peer-reviewed studies show it actively upregulates our immune system’s Natural Killer (NK) cell activity and increases intracellular proteins like perforin and granzyme A.

After a week of viruses depleting our systems, laying here snuggled together was the most targeted biochemical reset I could prescribe our family, as well as a beautiful memory I am sure none of us will forget, absorbing exactly what we need.

Immune system ⬆️ Stress hormones ⬇️ feeling one with nature ✅️ happy family 👨‍👩‍👧

So great to be back sharing the paths of the beautiful Oakham Canal last Sunday for a group Wild Wellbeing Walk, noticing the signs of spring around us and reflecting on an inner spring clean.

We looked for signs of last season and how they are important for this seasons growth, as well as letting anything go that doesn't need carrying into our next season.

We stood with our faces in the cool breeze and felt it blowing away all the cobwebs.

The paths were lined with colour and so much to explore , white comfrey, dandelions, celandine, ground ivy, some Marsh marigold, as well as cleavers, spring nettles and Jack by the hedge.

We found ourselves a peaceful place to stop and do a sit spot activity, a stillness practice helping us sink in to the beautiful natural space. How often do you spend 15 minutes in pure stillness in nature, just noticing ?

We also practiced a flow/river breath whole standing on the central bridge, listening to the water.

Finishing the walk through a finale of black thorn blossom 🌸🌸

Natural spaces by water allow all sorts of wonderful chemical reactions in our body that enhance mood and bring a sense of wellbeing, as well as gentle walking and sharing the path with others, we nurture connection with ourselves, others and the natural world around us.

So grateful for all the work that Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project do to keep this green space open and accessible.

Keep a look out for our next Wild Wellbeing Walk

So grateful to those who shared the path for our Wellbeing Walk on Saturday and for the wonderful work that Nene Rivers Trust do for these spaces and I am delighted to take part in the Nene Valley Works project.

During the walk we explored the 5 stages of the nature connection Spiral.

1️⃣We started at the first stage - Visiting. This is what we mostly all do when we are in nature, we are there, just as we are in any place we visit.

Using a grounding practice to sink a little deeper, feeling our feet on the earth, shifting weight from left to right, focusing on our breath, the sounds around us, and inside us, taking some time to bring our mind and body to the present moment.

2️⃣The second stage - Learning.
We walked the path with curiosity noticing anything, plant, bird, butterfly etc. That we didn't know the name of and spent some time finding out. When we allow curiosity to be tangible we then carry that knowledge and connection with that thing with us.

3️⃣The third stage - Retreating.
Many of us are familiar with this one, as we often go for a walk to clear our head. We used a sit spot practice to bring the curiosity inwards, what did the landscape around us maybe reflect in our inner landscape.

4️⃣The fourth stage - Belonging.

The Stanwick lakes area has been a place of belonging for thousands of years. Settlements from bronze age people and later Romans have been found here. Their relationship much closer to the natural world than ours. We sat in one of the reconstructions of a bronze age round house to think about this and how we can bring this belonging to nature into our own lives.

Before moving on we used somatic stretching and pandiculation to activate our parasympathetic nervous system, ready for the next part of the walk.

5️⃣The fith stage - Home.
When there is no seperation between us and the natural world. We felt into this as we sat watching the river Nene flow by, and practiced a river breath technique, breathing in and out through the nose as one continous flow, noticing how we are not unlike the river, sometimes full and fast, sometimes slow and gentle, meandering along our path.

When we connect with nature this way we realise we are nature.

Women have been circling for thousands of years.

Across cultures and generations, they have gathered around fires, in kitchens, in forests, in homes, to share stories, wisdom, grief, laughter and life itself. Circle is one of the oldest forms of community. No hierarchy. No performance. Just women sitting as equals.

This women’s circle is a new remembering of that ancient rhythm.

It is a space to pause and reconnect, to self, to instinct, to creativity, to the wild and wise within. Through sharing, guided visualisation, gentle somatic movement and simple seasonal practices, we explore the themes that shape our lives.

Circle offers belonging. Resonance. Sisterhood.
A place to be witnessed without judgement.

You do not need to be anything other than who you are.

It is a remembering.
A softening.
A returning home to yourself.

Most of us do hear our inner no.
We just learn to override it.

Why do we do this ?
• We say yes to keep the peace.
• To be kind or not unkind.
• To be reasonable.
• Because we don’t want to disappoint, rock the boat, or seem difficult.
• Often there is a gain, belonging, approval, safety, being liked.

And at some point in our lives, those things really mattered.

Why do all these matter more than what we truly feel inside though ?

When over time, the cost can show up as resentment, exhaustion, or a quiet sense of being out of step with ourselves.

This Spiral circle isn’t about becoming more confident or louder.

It’s about becoming more attuned.
Relearning how the body signals a yes and a no.

Practising how to honour that information gently, without force or justification.
We work slowly, through story, somatic exploration, reflection and simple ritual, in a way that can be taken back into everyday life.
If your body softened, tightened, or paused while reading this,
Its time.
