Sensory Development Across the Lifespan: From Womb to Adolescents

Understanding your child's behaviour starts with understanding how their sensory system develops.

Join us for a practical, relaxed, evidence-informed 6-week parent training course exploring how sensory development begins before birth and continues throughout childhood, shaping movement, regulation, learning, communication, behaviour, relationships and participation.

Over six engaging sessions, we'll explore:

👶 Week 1 (21st September 2026): Sensory Development Begins – Life in the Womb
👶 Week 2 (28th September 2026): Birth to 6 Months – Building the Sensory Foundations
🚼 Week 3 (5th October 2026): 6 Months to 2 Years – Movement, Exploration & Discovery
🧸 Week 4 (12th October 2026): 2 to 5 Years – Sensory Processing, Regulation & Play
🎒 Week 5 (19th October 2026): 5 to 11 Years – Sensory Development & Learning
🧩 Week 6 (2nd November 2026):Putting It All Together – From Sensory Development to Participation

From 7pm until 9pm

Each session includes:
✨ Practical strategies you can use at home
✨ Real-life examples and case studies
✨ Interactive activities and discussion
✨ Take-home ideas to support your child's development

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
✔️ Understand how sensory systems develop across childhood
✔️ Recognise how sensory processing influences behaviour, regulation and learning
✔️ Look beyond behaviour to understand what your child may be communicating
✔️ Feel confident using practical sensory strategies to support everyday participation

Our guiding framework is simple:

👀 SEE – Look beyond the behaviour.
🧠 UNDERSTAND – Consider sensory processing, regulation, development, trauma, attachment and communication.
❤️ SUPPORT – Adapt the environment, expectations and activities to help children thrive.

Whether you're a parent, carer, grandparent or anyone supporting a child, this course will give you the knowledge and confidence to better understand and support children's sensory development at every stage.

🤝 Better Together: OT + Speech & Language Therapy 💬✨

Children don’t develop in separate boxes, so why should therapy?

When Occupational Therapy and Speech & Language Therapy work together, we can look at the whole child and how communication, sensory processing, regulation, motor skills, attention and participation all connect.

🌟 Collaboration can help children to:
💬 Communicate more effectively
🧠 Regulate and feel ready to learn
🎯 Engage and participate
🤸 Develop independence and confidence
🏡 Use strategies consistently across home and school

At Achieve OT, and Emma B Speech Therapy we believe that working together creates stronger, more meaningful support for children and families.

💚 Together, we can help children achieve more.

📩 Contact us to discuss how joint OT and Speech & Language Therapy could support your child.

One of the greatest gifts of Occupational Therapy is helping people believe in themselves.

Progress doesn’t always begin with mastering a new skill it often begins with someone believing, “I can.” As occupational therapists, we have the privilege of seeing potential where others may see barriers, nurturing confidence, celebrating every achievement, and reminding people that they are capable of far more than they realise.

Confidence opens doors. Belief creates possibility. When we support someone to trust in their own abilities, we are giving them something that extends far beyond therapy, we are helping them build resilience, independence, and hope for the future.

Never underestimate the power of believing in someone until they believe in themselves.

June Scoliosis Awareness Month 💚

Behind every scar is a story of resilience, determination, and hope.

Claire, director of Achieve, lives with scoliosis, and every day she continues to show incredible strength, courage, and resilience. She refuses to let her diagnosis define her, instead breaking boundaries, embracing life’s opportunities, and inspiring everyone around her.

At Achieve Occupational Therapy, our mission is close to every OT’s heart ❤️ to empower individuals living with scoliosis to achieve their goals, maximise independence, build confidence, and live life to the fullest.

To everyone living with scoliosis: you are stronger than you realise. Your journey may not be easy, but you are never alone.

As the saying goes:
“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”

Let’s continue to raise awareness, celebrate every achievement, and support those living with scoliosis every step of the way.

💚 Together, we can break barriers, build confidence, and help every individual achieve their potential.

Beat the Heat with Achieve OT ☀️

At Achieve OT, the health, wellbeing, and safety of the people we support are our highest priorities. During periods of hot weather, our team closely monitors temperatures and daily conditions to help keep everyone safe and comfortable.

We are carrying out daily heat checks, adapting activities where needed, encouraging hydration, and supporting individuals to stay cool throughout the day.l which may mean sessions will need to be rescheduled.

By working together, we can reduce the risks associated with high temperatures and ensure everyone continues to thrive safely.

Your safety is our priority. Every day, every visit, every person. 💙

Just a reminder there will be no sessions from Saturday 20th, Sunday 21st, Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd of June. This is because Claire has been asked to present at the Sensory Attachment Conference in Belfast in relation to the research she has been undertaking and as a team we are going to learn, support and identify new strategies to support our children.

Can’t wait to tell you all about it ☺️
