& Son Ltd are recognised by the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD). Our history is that extensive we are unable to find many records dating to when the companies were first established, we do however have one particular invoice dated April 9th 1886 sent out by Dr. Robert Wild. Dr. Robert Wild then opted to leave the companies to his grandson Mr Robert Wild allowing him to take over the Empress Ballroom situated on Washington Street Oldham. Under Mr Wild's care the companies went from strength to strength, moving premises to Featherstall Road where at this point Darren Clark joined the companies as a funeral director. In 1997 we moved again to Edward Street, Werneth due to the land being compulsory-purchase order by Tesco and we still remain here. Darren then was placed in charge to allow Mr Wild to retire and before long it was agreed that Darren would take over the companies to make sure it would remain a family business. With Darren at the helm, the companies have grown even more, all whilst being one of the youngest NAFD Presidents, the youngest ever County Commissioner for St John Ambulance and now by royal appoitment Depty Lord-Lieutenant for Greater Manchester. Luckily his son Michael decided to come on board nearly 17 years ago to ensure the family tradition continued, whilst having two young daughters himself, who we hope will step into the family business and continue our legacy well into the future.
