💙 Learning Disability Week 2026 💙

A learning disability affects how a person understands and processes information, learns new skills, and manages aspects of everyday life. Every person’s experience is unique, and this week reminds us of the importance of ensuring that everyone is listened to, respected, and supported to achieve their goals.

Learning Disability Week is also a chance to reflect on how we can all be allies. Whether as healthcare professionals, family members, friends, or members of the community, we can support and advocate for people with a learning disability to live healthy, fulfilling lives and access the same opportunities as everyone else.

Together, let’s continue to promote inclusion, challenge barriers, and celebrate the strengths, achievements, and individuality of people with learning disabilities - not just this week, but every day 💙💙💙

If your child or young person is on the GP Learning Disability Register, they’re entitled to a free Annual Health Check from age 14.

It’s a simple yearly review that helps:

• Spot health issues early
• Keep them well even when they feel fine
• Make sure reasonable adjustments are in place

These checks give families time to talk and ask questions.

Contact your GP to book their Annual Health Check.

💙 DO YOU KNOW?
Annual health checks can make a real difference.
For people on the GP learning disability register, they are:
✓ Free for anyone aged 14 and over.
✓ A way to spot health issues early before they become serious.
✓ Something you can have even when you’re feeling well.
✓ A chance to ask for reasonable adjustments so your appointment works for you.

Too often, health concerns can go unnoticed or unspoken. Annual health checks help change that.

Your health matters. Your voice matters. You matter.

📅 Don’t miss your annual health check.

💜 Learning Disability Week 2026 | 15–21 June 💜

This years theme is - "Do You See Me?"

It reminds us to see the person, not the diagnosis.

Every person with a learning disability has their own strengths, ambitions, talents, hopes, and dreams. They deserve to be recognised for who they are and included in every part of community life.

As a Parent Carer Forum, we're proud to support Learning Disability Week 2026 and join Mencap in raising awareness and challenging misconceptions. Together, we can help create a more inclusive society where people with learning disabilities are seen, heard, valued, and given every opportunity to thrive.

When you meet someone, what do you see? 💖

Join us this week in celebrating the unique contributions of people with learning disabilities and helping spread the message:

🌟Tourettes awareness day ⭐️
Tourettes Syndrome (TS) is a neurological condition which can affect people in many different ways. Alot of children and adults with Tourette’s have tics, which are movements or sounds that are involuntary.

Tics can include things like:
👁Blinking or facial movements
🤷‍♂️Shoulder shrugging
👄Throat clearing or noises
🗣Repeating words or sounds

Children with Tourette’s are the same as any other child — they enjoy friendships, games, learning, creativity, and having fun.
One of the most important things we can teach children is understanding and kindness. If someone has a tic:
💙 Be patient
💙 Don’t stare or laugh
💙 Include everyone in activities and play
💙 Remember they are not doing it on purpose
