Some families you serve once. Others, you have the privilege of walking alongside for years, through more heartache than any family should ever have to endure.
A few years ago, I had the honour of conducting the funeral of a young man named Taylor, taken far too soon. Earlier this year, I was entrusted with caring for his dear mum, Fay, and helping her family say their final goodbye.
I’ll never forget a quiet moment in the chapel, just the three of us — Taylor, Fay, and me. After being so incredibly strong for everyone around her, she finally allowed herself to break. She wept in my arms, her love for her son and the depth of her grief beyond words. It is a moment that has remained with me ever since.
One of the greatest privileges of being a funeral director is the trust families place in you. To be asked back, to care for the same family through multiple losses, is an honour I never take for granted.
Fay, your love for Taylor was unwavering and unconditional. I hope there is comfort in knowing you are together once more.
To your family, thank you for allowing me to walk this journey with you. It has been a privilege to care for those you love.
Rest peacefully, Fay.
Reunited with your beloved son, Taylor.
Gone too soon. ❤️
