Just one week to go until the grand opening of The Centre Spot đź’š

We’d love to welcome you along on Friday 5th June from 10am–1pm to have a look around, meet some of the organisations based at the centre, and see what’s planned for the future.

The Centre Spot will be a new hub for youth and community wellbeing in the heart of Oswestry, and we can’t wait to open the doors and share it with everyone.

We hope to see you there!

Behaviour is often a child’s way of communicating something they do not yet have the words, understanding or emotional regulation to express.

Children who are struggling emotionally may show this through anger, aggression, defiance, shutting down, impulsivity or difficulties coping with boundaries and expectations. Whilst these behaviours can be challenging, they are often signs of stress, overwhelm or unmet emotional needs rather than a child simply “choosing” to behave badly.

Play therapy provides children with a safe space to explore feelings through play, creativity and the therapeutic relationship. Rather than relying on direct questioning, play therapy helps children express emotions in a way that feels natural and manageable for them developmentally.

Through co regulation, attuned responses and symbolic play, children can begin to understand their emotions, develop safer ways to communicate distress and strengthen their ability to regulate themselves over time.

When adults look beneath behaviour with curiosity and compassion, children are more able to feel understood and supported.

Social difficulties and anxiety can have a significant impact on a child’s daily life. Some children may desperately want connection with others, but feel overwhelmed in social situations, worry about getting things wrong or struggle to feel confident around peers.

For other children, anxiety may show through avoidance, physical symptoms, emotional outbursts, withdrawal or becoming extremely quiet in situations that feel stressful or unpredictable.

Play therapy supports children because it offers emotional safety before expectation. Rather than asking children to explain complex feelings directly, play therapy allows them to communicate naturally through play and creativity in a way that matches their developmental stage.

Within the therapeutic relationship, children can begin to build trust, confidence and emotional resilience. Play based interactions can help children explore worries safely, strengthen emotional regulation and gradually develop confidence within relationships and social situations.

When children feel emotionally safe and understood, they are often better able to engage with the world around them.

We deliver a monthly training session on the last Thursday of each month, exploring a range of topics and sharing practical, evidence‑informed strategies to help professionals support children through grief with confidence and compassion.

In this sessions we explore:
🔹 How children understand grief at different developmental stages
🔹 Practical, age‑appropriate ways to talk about loss
🔹 Tools and free resources to support emotional regulation
🔹 Guidance for educators, youth workers, and safeguarding professionals

This April, our training focuses on supporting Primary School‑aged pupils.

As a man who runs facilitates mens groups I see that we often struggle to interact with a system that is weighted towards what many women prefer in terms of support. Of course, that's a sweeping statement but holds a lot of truth.

I've been fortunate to be part of some research in Canada with Interwoven Connections Here's some interesting research that looks to dig deeper into experiences of adoption disruption that some may be interested in looking at.

When BIG feelings take over!

Our new FREE resource can help children to notice when they become overwhelmed by big feelings and to reconnect with the feelings that are behind or beneath it. Support children to recognise and name their feelings, notice that they can change over time and with attention. Taking time to notice this creates an important distinction between what they feel and who they are.
