Asbestos Health Statistics in the UK: Why Competent Training Matters More Than Ever

The latest HSE data shows asbestos remains the biggest workplace killer in the UK, with around 5,000 deaths every year. Despite being banned in 1999, asbestos is still present in hundreds of thousands of buildings, meaning the risk hasn’t gone away.

What UK Venues Must Do Before 2027

Martyns Law is coming, and UK venues must start preparing now. The Terrorism Protection of Premises Act 2025 introduces new legal duties for public spaces, from staff training to full security planning.

At MBO Safety Services, we are helping organisations understand their responsibilities and stay compliant ahead of enforcement in 2027.

We are also gauging interest in the new NEBOSH terrorism‑protection qualifications, designed to support both Standard Duty and Enhanced Duty premises.

Another busy week comes to an end here at MBO Safety Services, and our consultants have certainly been putting in the miles!

On Tuesday, we delivered a UKATA Asbestos Awareness session for the brilliant team at The Wrekin Housing Group. It’s always a pleasure supporting such a dedicated workforce in understanding what asbestos is, how it affects people, and how to stay safe.

Thursday saw us back on the road delivering an Emergency First Aid at Work course for Bodhi Solutions. A fantastic group, fully engaged and committed to gaining the essential skills needed to respond confidently in an emergency.

Alongside our training delivery, we’ve also been undertaking Fire Risk Assessments for Wrexham University this week ensuring their properties are thoroughly assessed to protect students, lecturers, and the wider public.

Another busy week comes to an end here at MBO Safety Services.

Our consultants have been travelling across the country supporting clients with their health and safety needs, and it’s been fantastic to see so many organisations investing in quality training.

On Tuesday, we delivered a CITB Health & Safety Awareness course — a big thank you to L G Blower, LACE Carpentry and Joinery, and all attendees. We hope you found the session valuable and we look forward to welcoming you back very soon.

Wednesday was equally productive with our Emergency First Aid at Work course. It was great working with ETC Sawmills, C&L 24h Emergency Drainage, Oswyn House and R G Edwards. We’re delighted the training went smoothly and we look forward to supporting your teams again in the future.

We also attended the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Summer BBQ Networking Event — a brilliant opportunity to meet new faces and connect with businesses across the region.

To round off the week, we delivered Confined Spaces training for the excellent team at ABP. It’s always a pleasure working with such a committed group.

Another productive week comes to a close here at MBO Safety Services, with our consultants and trainers supporting businesses across the region.
✅ Monday: Our consultancy team was busy delivering a range of health and safety services, including a Fire Risk Assessment for one of our valued clients, alongside audits, site inspections, and assisting clients with accident investigation policies. It's always rewarding to work with organisations committed to maintaining safe, compliant workplaces and prioritising the wellbeing of their employees.
✅ Tuesday: We supported clients with a range of health and safety requirements, including COSHH Assessments, Safe Working Practices, and task-specific manual handling assessments. By identifying risks and implementing practical control measures, we help businesses reduce the likelihood of repetitive strain injuries and upper limb disorders.
📌 Did you know? Musculoskeletal disorders remain one of the most common causes of work-related ill health in the UK, highlighting the importance of effective manual handling practices and ergonomic workstation assessments.
✅ Wednesday: Our team carried out a site visit for a new project where we have been appointed as Principal Designer. We're delighted to be supporting local businesses with its CDM compliance and project safety requirements and look forward to seeing the completed project take shape.
✅ Thursday: We started the day with Manual Handling Training, delivered in partnership with Oswestry BID, helping local businesses enhance workplace safety and meet their compliance obligations. We also delivered UKATA Asbestos Awareness Training for the excellent team at R G Edwards, a valued long-standing client dedicated to keeping its workforce informed, compliant, and protected from asbestos related risks.
