ā€œReady Is A Decision, Not A Feelingā€

I read this recently and it really resonated.

We often think we need to learn more, train more, buy more or become more before we’re ready. But what if ready isn’t something we feel? What if it’s simply a decision?

It reminded me of a cycling trip I did through Spain in 2016. A friend and I cycled from Seville to Santiago to Gijón over six weeks, through the heat of June and July, over hills and mountains, with just a handful of rest days.

How long had we trained? None. I said yes just three weeks before leaving and barely sat on a bike beforehand. I borrowed almost everything and cycled in my trusty Birkenstocks; my friend wore flip-flops.

Some days were hard. There were climbs where I physically couldn’t pedal and had to get off and push.

But that trip taught me something invaluable: we can spend weeks, months or even years trying to feel ready, or we can simply decide to begin.

Because even when we can’t pedal, we can still walk.

We don’t have to do everything ā€˜perfectly’. We don’t have to do anything like others might. We don’t have to look like anyone else and nor does our experience have to look like anybody else’s.

The goal isn’t to ā€˜ace’ every moment or ā€œdo it rightā€; it’s to have the experience in the first place. It isn’t about living a perfect life but about living life.

How many experiences have you talked yourself out of because you didn’t feel ready? What excited you but you shelved it because you thought, ā€œI need to do xyz first and then I’ll be readyā€?

And what might change if you decided that you already are?

SOME DOLLY PARTON WISDOM

Here are some quotes and lyrics (and what they mean to me) from a woman who was so full@of love and passion for life and who, even in death, continues to inspire across the board and across the globe, me included.

I discovered Dolly Parton in my early double digit years, in the movie ā€˜9-5’ (I still love that pivotal film!), though my mum - and her siblings! - had been a fan for years.

Everything I’ve seen, read or heard about Dolly seemed to be steeped in kindness. Imagine that - being hugely successful, the world over, and having done it with grace, integrity and full of kindness.

Now THAT is an inspiring role model ā¤ļø

FIVE TIPS FOR NAILING AIRPLANE TRAVEL

After many a flight under my belt, I’ve honed my travel necessities for a comfortable journey and these are my top five āœˆļø

1. Carry a reusable water bottle with you so you’ve always got water on hand.
2. Top up your electrolytes before you fly - and after - to stay hydrated!
3. On board essentials to beat the dry air: eye drops, hand cream, lip balm (and healthy snacks!).
4. Enjoy the Duty Free testers.
5. Aisle seat for the win - enables easy exiting for regular airplane strolls and stretches.

FIVE THINGS I DO EVERY MORNING TO SET MYSELF UP FOR A GREAT DAY.

1. Drink a litre of water within 2 hours of waking.
2. Get my bare feet on the earth and/or go for a short walk.
3. Meditate for 5-15 minutes, depending on the time available to me that morning.
4. Journal.
5. No phone before breakfast (this isn’t exactly accurate as I use my phone when I meditate and sometimes to listen to mucus while I make breakfast (I explain how I avoid notifications, social media, etc in the post).

If you’re interested in meditation, journaling or how you could set your morning up for greatness, DM me to find out how I can help šŸ’š

šŸ€Stick, Twist or Move On?šŸ€

Back in March, I stepped away from my normal routine for three weeks, and it gave me the space I needed to ask myself a simple question: What’s next?

I realised how much I need to balance working online and indoors with being active, outdoors, and working with my hands. Instead of seeing change as failure, as it previously had, it started to feel exciting.

So, I decided to twist.

I’ll still be coaching and offering Reiki, helping people create space mentally, emotionally and energetically. And also, I’m expanding into garden and home care - supporting wellbeing in practical ways too, for both myself and others.
Look out for me aorund Oswestry: Helping Hands, garden & home care.

Sometimes you don’t need to start over.

Sometimes a small shift towards what feels lighter, more energising, and more you is enough.

So, what about you? Will you stick, twist or move on?

Happy Solstice šŸŒž

Solstice wasn’t a part of my life growing up. One of my closest friends would wish us a happy solstice every year and I thought it was nice (and a bit weird) and left it at that.

Over the last few years though, as I’ve become more interested, connected and attuned with nature, solstice has grown a meaning for me. Marking a halfway point in the natural world’s year, the peak of sun energy, a moment to pause, appreciate the sun that rises every day and sets every night, to reflect on the year so far and the days to come, to reconnect and align with nature, with the seasons and with myself. Sharing it with friends makes it all the more sweet and all the more meaningful. I was full of the love vibes this morning as the sun burst forth on the horizon! ā˜€ļøšŸ’›

Whatever it means to you and even if it means nothing and you think it’s a bit weird, Happy Solstice fellow human xx
