Cannabis use accelerates psychosis onset in adults above 20 years of age.

A recent meta-analysis in Biological psychiatry ( in Press, August 2026 by Stevens and colleagues https://doi.org/10.1016/j.biopsych.2026.06.025) reported insightful findings on how cannabis use affects psychosis onset. The cannabis use affects different the age of onset of psychosis differently across various age groups. The age of onset is not different between the users and non users in under 20 years of age. However, the earlier age of onset accelerates as the age increases for individuals over 20 years of age. Their findings indicate that

Oxford Brain and Mind is delighted to welcome two exceptional new specialists to our growing team — Dr Nina Baruch, Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist, and Dr Amy Lewins, Clinical Psychologist.

Dr Baruch’s expertise will help expand our adult and old age psychiatry services, strengthen our liaison psychiatry provision, and support the development of a new service for memory disorders and dementia.

Dr Lewins joins us to further enhance our psychological therapy services with her extensive clinical expertise.
