Hi Everyone
For a long time, I thought meditation was mainly about feeling calmer and learning how to quieten my mind.
Those things can be part of it, but the changes I noticed went much deeper than that. Over time, I began to feel more connected to myself. I could feel my own strength and energy more clearly and started to believe in myself more - in my capabilities, my choices and my own sense of who I was. I became less focused on pleasing other people, gaining their approval or worrying about what they might think of me. I felt more comfortable being who I was, rather than changing or holding parts of myself back to fit in or make sure people liked me.
I also found it easier to rest and relax. I hadn't realised how much time I'd spent feeling as though I should always be doing something, changing something or moving on to the next thing.
As I became more present, I developed a much deeper appreciation for ordinary life. I noticed the touch of a light breeze on my shoulder, the way the evening light touched the leaves, or the beauty held in a single flower. But it wasn't only about noticing beautiful things. Even when I was doing something I might previously have found tedious or monotonous, I could find more enjoyment in it because my mind wasn't constantly drifting towards what was wrong, what I'd rather be doing or how things could be better. I was more able to be where I was and enjoy the moment I was in.
I'd like to create a space where people can come together and make meditation a regular practice. Meditation can be a very personal experience, but there is something valuable about practising alongside others.
I'm starting a weekly drop-in meditation practice group at Rooted in Burford and also run a weekly group in Long Hanborough. No previous experience is needed, and instruction and guidance will be given, so you're very welcome whether meditation is completely new to you or something you'd like to return to.
If this sounds like something you might enjoy, get in touch and I'll send you the details.
Warmly,
Salima
