With A-level results due in England this week and GCSEs next week, we asked Leanne Cooper-Brown, one of our Clinical Directors at Clinical Partners, for her advice on coping with results day when your teenager has a neurodevelopmental condition.
Leanne said: “Results day can be an emotional experience for any student, but for neurodivergent young people the uncertainty, sensory pressures and expectations surrounding the day can add extra challenges. While exam results matter, they are only one measure of achievement.
"For me personally, I vividly remember both results days. My GCSE results were great, but A-levels were a different story. I later discovered that I’m dyslexic, and the jump from GCSEs to A-levels proved much more challenging than I had realised at the time. I ended up re-sitting and starting university a year later than planned. Results day is a milestone, not a verdict. There is no single route to success, and one set of grades does not define who you are or what you can achieve.”
