A recent Ramble saw us head over to Colby Woodland Gardens where we enjoyed an outdoor circus performance by SPAN Arts inspired by the Mabinogion!

It was a beautiful day for a picnic and the lovely teams from both Colby and Span ensured our residents had prime seats and a fantastic afternoon, we even had a photo op with the truly talented and skilled performers after before getting a cheeky ice cream and heading back home.

So some of you may have noticed the lovely new flooring in the Willows corridor as our renovations to the building continue at pace!

What I’d like to share is a snippet of the work that went into making this possible.

Our residents in the Willows thrive on routine and with the right amount of stimulation so we knew we couldn’t just bring them into the main building and hope for the best.

So our manager Neil had a brainwave and said ‘why don’t you book a hall for the day?’

This became one of my favourite days at work of all time. We had support from Pembrokeshire Voluntary Transport and booked the lovely Pennar Hall, Pembroke Dock to make ours for the day.

We had a meaningful, relaxing and productive day of garden themed sensory sessions, Al fresco lunch, gentle reminiscing prompted by watching British gardens with Monty Don and finished making flower posys to bring home.

This day wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing staff members who accompanied the trip and everyone who helped to prep for it back at the home. Thank you 💚

And a huge thanks to Alex, Alan and the team at Pembrokeshire Frame for going with the mad idea and loaning us the armchairs to make our residents comfortable!

My favourite moment though?
Everyone getting the opportunity to put clotted cream and jam on their scones the ‘right’ way (whichever was right for them!) 🤭

We were just as busy in the home as out of it celebrating 5 birthdays in the month of July! We baked, sang, partied, crafted and quizzed and enjoyed a visit from favourite friend Ruby the greyhound and the return of our London based Korean Church friends too.

We enjoyed some beautiful walks and trips out last month, the day at Manor Wildlife Park brought out joy in all of us and we made a friend of ‘Bluey’ the peacock at lunchtime!

Our ramblers have been exploring closer to home over the last few weeks with trips out to the , Martha's Kitchen and the Cosheston Garden Centre and to shop for tropical houseplants at Vine And Vibe Pembroke!

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome and in particular to Vine and Vibe for the clutch of Venus flytraps that are busily doing good work in several of our homes now 😂
We're looking forward to trips out in July so watch this space!

Flashback photo dump to the last bank holiday where we had a sensory pool party with sand castle building and an ice cream cart.
We armed the residents with water pistols and challenged them to soak the staff!
