River Pride: Pencoed Comes Together

A brilliant day on the Ewenny Fach as we cleared around 200 metres of riverbank and opened up the 350 metre footpath from Felindre Road to Croesty. Twenty‑one volunteers — from youngsters to retirees — got stuck in with vegetation clearance, riverbank care, and litter picking.

We collected six rubbish bags, textiles, a rubber sheet, a damaged traffic cone, old tools and more — around 110 kg of rubbish removed from the river corridor and path.

Huge thanks to Andy from South East Wales Rivers Trust for guiding us and helping us finish with a biodiversity‑based water‑quality check. The results were uplifting: excellent water quality and a thriving mix of river species.

The Ewenny Fach has shaped Pencoed’s heritage for generations, and restoring pride in these spaces is part of restoring pride in our community. Today showed what happens when people come together — real impact and a great feel‑good buzz.

Pencoed Trailblazers is welcoming and inclusive. If you want to make a difference to the place you live, come and join us. Together, we’re keeping the Ewenny Fach clean, healthy, and beautiful for future generations.

Pencoed Trailblazers – Special Event!

Please note the change of day!

Join us on Sunday 19 July, 10am–12pm, for a very special Pencoed Trailblazers session.

This month, our friends from South East Wales Rivers Trust will be joining us to lead a river walk and community litter clear along the river corridor in Pencoed.

Meeting point: Pencoed Swimming Pool
Time: 10am–12pm
What to bring: Wellies or sturdy footwear
Equipment: All other kit will be provided.

There will be opportunities to help clear litter from the river, but if you'd prefer to stay out of the water, we'll also be improving and clearing the riverside footpath. Take part in whatever feels right for you – there's no pressure to do more than you're comfortable with.

Everyone is welcome. Whether you're a regular volunteer, looking to give something back to your local community, or simply fancy getting outdoors and meeting new people, we'd love to see you there.

Come along for a friendly, inclusive morning, enjoy some fresh air, make a difference to our local environment, and be part of a fantastic community group.

Clearing the Old Right of Way — Together

Yesterday we headed down the old right of way that once linked Pencoed to the Di**le and the long‑gone brickworks. It’s a route many people pass without realising how much history sits under the brambles.

But yesterday, people showed up to bring it back.

Twenty‑two volunteers — all ages, all backgrounds — turned up with gloves, tools, and a shared sense that this forgotten path deserved better. Over a couple of hours we cleared around 180 metres and filled three bags of rubbish.

What made it special was how naturally everyone worked together. New faces chatting with regulars. People who’d never met before mucking in side by side. A right of way that hasn’t served its original purpose in decades suddenly becoming a place where community actually happens.

By the time we finished, the path looked clearer — and people walked away feeling lighter. Pride, wellbeing, connection… all from giving a bit of time to a place that matters.

Small job. Real impact.

Footpath 5 Wants Its Freedom — Come Help Us Break It Out!

Look at this poor right of way…
Blocked in. Overgrown. Trapped.
Just sitting there like, “Hello? I used to be a road, thank you very much. I carried farmers, families and brickworkers before half of you were born. Can someone let me out?”

Well… yes. Yes we can.

On Saturday 20 June, 10–12pm, Trailblazers are heading out to rescue Footpath 5 — the old road to the di**le and the historic route to the clay/brickworks before the estate arrived. Nature’s been trying to kidnap it, and we’re staging a full‑scale community jailbreak.

Why go?
Because honestly… got anything better to do?
Didn’t think so.

✨ Fresh air
✨ Friendly people
✨ Feel‑good vibes
✨ A bit of history
✨ A path future generations will thank you for
✨ And you can do as much or as little as you like

No kit. No experience. No pressure.
Just turn up, have a laugh, and help a forgotten footpath escape from the undergrowth.

And if you can’t make this one, we’re out every third Saturday of the month, 10–12pm around Pencoed. You’re always welcome.

Let’s set this path free.
